They're bottom-feeders just like catfish too, right? I do like domestic catifsh of the non-farm variety, though. Especially breaded then skillet or deep-fried. BOMB when slathered with red hot sauce!

And if you're ever in Louisville, stop by Mike Linnig's Restaurant. He's been serving some of the
the best seafood locally (for a non-costal state) since 1925.

Generous portions of fried fish, shrimp, frog legs, pan fried oysters, turtle soup, chicken and onion rings, served to you indoors or out.

I've only had swai once - tasted no different than tilapia. I was leary of trying it then, and since have only heard bad things about the waters they come from.

I got a bag from Wally World a couple of months ago, too. No issues. Won't tempt fate (or the fluts) again, though. :flush:

I really don't know about the tilapia. I saw the swai in the counter, but never heard of it before and skipped on it. I'd had tilapia before and liked it. I actually made a special trip to Kroger for catfish. They are the only ones in my town with anything reasonably fresh and available. All of their catfish was labeled from different countries. All they had was frozen. So, the tilapia was the only non-frozen fresh looking thing in the counter. It was really good !

We use to go catfishin' (lake, not river) every Sat. growing up. I had to cut the grass first, then we would go ! We would get back home, clean the fish, and mom would fry them with some hush puppies, cole slaw, tartar sauce, and sweet tea on the side. /smash gewd eatin' Of course, everything was fresh - grated cabbage, onion, corn meal, etc...

You're really serious about this huh?

Damn glad he repeated it.....the first time, I thought, "hey, I'll just go on and eat Vietnamese catfish anyway, damn the torpedos.: But now, after hearing the message again, I'm going to stay away from it.

Below is a list of foods that are safe to buy from China:

This has little to do with china but here is a hint on how to fix tilapia. Make a slurry of kosher salt and wash the fish with that slurry. It will make it taste much fresher. I would imagine catfish is the same. It takes a film off the fish.

If you are ever near Valdosta, Ga, go to Lakeland Ga and there is a catfish place on Rays Pond that is wonderful. All you can eat, fried pickles, cheese grits. Worth the drive.

The best Cat fish I ever had, were the ones that my Dad use to catch and cook when I was a kid.

I like Kroger's seafood selection, too. Locally, they will prep any kind of fresh fish they have with various herbs and seasoning, then wrap in it in a special foil package for baking in your oven.

I bought some catfish from my local Kroger about two months ago and it said it was USA-raised, not foreign. I pan-fried it in olive oil with with some low-sodium seafood breading and it was just as flaky, golden-brown and tasty as when my Dad used to make it when I was a kid.:seasix:

Catfish is good with scrambled eggs and biscuits for breakfast, too.

For some reason I have never liked any fish or sea foods for breakfast.

But maybe a Cormorant would be good? :island14:
