Back in the 1980s a buddy of mine and I had a used car parts business that made us at least $500 each per month. This was pre-internet, so we advertised in Hemmings and the mags of the car clubs we belonged to. Our ad looked like this:

"1,000 of rare cars being dismantled! 60's Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Challengers and Chargers, other Fords, Chevys and Pontiacs, even convertibles! Newer cars as well. Write or call us, and we'll let you know if we have what you need and the price."

We didn't have a single car. But we did know of several junk yards that had these cars. When we got a request, we went to the junk yards on Saturday and priced the part, which was almost always a lot less than what we'd sell it for. No overhead, no inventory.

Ahhhh...those were the days! Your side line?

A lot of the cars for sale on Jalopnik are obviously pictures of cars sitting in junkyards. I have several junkyards near me with older cars (50s and 60s).

I'm thinking about getting together with them and offering to market some of their stuff and just take a mark up. Same thing you were doing, but I'm thinking whole cars instead of parts.

Not a single un-truth in our ad. It doesn't say we were dismantling them. :leaving:
