:ohnoes:

Found by my dead cousin's husband... delivered to me today. Both bottle and original box are in mint condition (box even tastes like mint!)

When my dad died 23 years ago, he had an unopened bottle of Southern Comfort. It was probably the last bottle of booze he ever bought. I took it home and didn't open it for a long time. Finally I decided to open it and have a shot whenever there was one of those "I wish dad was here" moments. Sometimes I put a little splash of it in the BBQ sauce at family gatherings. I still have it and there's a little bit left.

Its not going to get any better in the bottle so there is not point in keeping it hoping it will age and improve.

I can only echo what was said earlier, get some Mexican Coca Cola and some fresh limes and drink it the way it was meant to be. Share it with some good friends (assuming you have some ) and enjoy

Maybe you should try to find out why your cuz saved it for so long. Is there some significance to the bottle?

A dead bottle of booze is a good bottle of booze.

We're still trying to figure that one out.

Neither my cousin nor her husband that found the bottle after her death drank any alcohol at all.

The best story we've come up with so far is that, her brother, who drank a LOT back in the late 70's and early 80's, lived in that house temporarily, and under the strict rule that he couldn't drink at all while he lived there. We think he sneaked alcohol into the house, this being one of the bottles, and when he moved out, he left it there. She must have found it, and for some reason, never threw it out. It was under her bed.

If neither one drank then it is probably just a bottle that fell through the cracks. I hereby change my vote from no to yes.

It probably won't taste real great though so I second the motion for mixing in a little Mexican Coke.

I'm putting you down for coming out of a party-sized rum cake. Singing "Happy Birth-Day, Miss-ter Press-i-deeeent."

With sparklers and tassels and all that shit.

That was my parents drink of choice growing up. I would have never noticed a difference with a new bottle if it wasn't for this thread. Rum isn't really my thing.

Once the booze is in the bottle, it's as good as it's ever going to get, so my vote is to crack that sucker open and toast whomever in your family would appreciate being toasted the most.

On a similar note a buddy of mine was bragging about a bottle of 12 year old scotch that his father had in the house unopened for 20 years and how it was a 32 year old bottle, he was a bit depressed when I explained that the ageing process stops once the booze is bottled, sure it's 32 years old, but it hasn't bee aged in a barrel for 32 years so it's not the same thing.

A lot of people suffer the same misunderstanding. Once it's in glass, it's done aging. :shots:

I'll call Bacardi. We think it dates to around 1979 or 1980.
