She has been in bad shape suffering from Kindle withdrawal. Her Kindle failed over the weekend and she gets crazy without it.
At three years old it was well beyond it's one year warranty, but she got on the phone with Amazon and they got a new one to her right away free of charge. Which makes sense on their part since my wife reads so many books our Amazon bill looks like a car payment.
Now we just have to send the old one back to them and it's all good. I have never been so happy to see the UPS truck in my driveway.:D:seasix:

Yeah, she does download some free/cheap stuff, but reading is her passion, and she likes certain authors. She deserves it, she worked hard a long time and if reading is her way to some happiness in retirement, so be it.:seasix:

You missed a chance to be a hero by winning one for her in a carnival ball toss game :D

 No, but I do have the shame of not thinking to give her one for Christmas three years ago. Her daughter thought of it.:leaving:

Gift suggestion for the wife: a library card.

We live 15 miles from a library, and it's not a very good one (small town) She does have a network of friends that she trades books with, though.

I feel your pain. Our library, while only about 3 miles away, is teh suck. If you go looking for a specific tome, prepare to be disappointed. I usually just hit up the "new acquisitions" shelf and see if anything moves me.

You mean "Bestiality Monthly" and "Pedophiles on Pedestals"?

I'll check to see if our library has those next time I visit.
Edit: On second thought, no.....no, I won't check.

If they do, pick them up for Spence. Get him a copy of Barbie Quarterly, too.

Give her a gift subscription to this.
Just don't let her find out it's free.

I read approximately two books per week on my iPad Kindle app. Would suffer withdrawals without it, I feel your wife's pain.

I'm just getting a red x here, but I bet that's a reference to the Twilight Zone episode with Burgess Meredith. One of my favorites.:seasix::seasix:

Which Kindle did she get? If it's one that can run apps, check out OverDrive. It allows downloading of books from your local library. My dad uses it all the time (he's running the OverDrive and Kindle apps on an iPad, though).

When she first got it, there was just the basic model. Even though hers was out of waranty, they were replacing that one. at least she was able to download all the files from the old one to the new one. Amazon was very good with helping her over the phone to do that.
I'll look into what you said about the local library, but I doubt our little small town library would have that service. Besides, my wife reads mostly junk contemporary fiction, so the library probably wouln't have much that interested her anyway.

If your local library is part of a larger cooperative, she can 'check out' digital books from any one of the libraries in the group. My folks live in a small town and still have access to thousands of contemporary books through OverDrive and their library card. :seasix:
