Thanks. We try to give a good impression :D Hard to achieve that 18 - 35 yr. old half-starved look in the modern world. Those soldiers would easily march 20 miles a day on a bit of salt pork and hardtack. Robbie (the first pic) started reenacting at 8 yrs. old. He was our company drummer until old enough to carry a musket onto the field. He turned into a big boy. He is probably 6'4". He can make almost anything...cap boxes and other leather goods, hand-sewn uniforms, etc...

Nice. One of these weekends Theresa and the kids and I are gonna take a day trip to Fort Duffield, our state's oldest Civil War embankment. It's less than 10 miles from Fort Knox (West Point, Ky.)

The fort is mostly a serpentine wall, unlike the typical star-shaped Civil War forts in Kentucky. The earthworks of the fort are well-preserved.

Originally there was a one mile clearing between the fort and any trees, but since the fort's abandonment the forest has grown back around the fort. A fresh water spring was inside the fort.

Will do! I've been a Civil War buff of sorts since my older brother got me hip to it when I was a kid. We used to find all sorts of period jacket buttons, Minie balls and glass ampules in the woods behind my parent's house when I was little.

We would bring that stuff in for show and tell when I was in grade school. I was born in Hodgenville, Ky. (birthplace of Lincoln) and there's so much history there.

If you ever get the chance, stop by the Abraham Lincoln National Memorial Park in Hodgenville, Ky. and West Point, Ky. (Fort Duffield). They are only about an hour apart.

I'm hoping to take a 2 week trip to visit battlefields in June. I would love love to see the ones you mention. :seasix:

Cool ! I've collected, metal detected, etc...for relics for many years. I love the thoughts that I'm the first person to touch that relic since the soldier 150 yrs. ago.

You and the family would probably enjoy a CW living history or reenactment. A reenactment is where we fire guns, cannons, and reenact an actual battle. A living history is more like life in camp. A reenactment is generally more exciting and you experience so much more.

Obviously the Civil War was a dark period in our history with many facets. Slavery of course was a doomed practice before the war started anyway, but the fact that the States were fed up with the overbearing federal government and decided to do something about it says a lot about the independent American spirit and their dislike of oppressive government.

Wars suck! and both sides payed a very high price...

Just a thought, But the whole country is becoming Tax paying slaves, and as soon as they wake up...... there just might be another war.

I would really love to disagree with you, but well, I don't. There is a reason the feds want to round up our guns. America is in SERIOUS trouble.:sadangel:
