Holy crap. What a journey. Power just went out so this will be short. Not sure when I'll be able to get back online again but will be sure to respond when I can.
We are in the final day of the trip - crew is out fishing and kayaking, the medical team is treating patients for the second day. Yesterday we were overrun with dental patients. We also treated a string of Nicaragua military with everything from dental problems to a nice big bot fly larvae growing out of his head. :hurray:
The docs almost had to pop smoke on me two days ago (I'll let the .mil folks explain that to you) when I ran into heat exhaustion and severe gastritis. After 4 bags of saline, a shot of 'roids and misc other drugs, I'm back on my feet. There was a serious chance of dying but (as you know) I'm indestructible.
I'm sitting now with a three month old raccoon who is biting the shit out of my leg while I copy data from camera discs to a drive.
My adhoc crew turned out to be the perfect crew. Right down to our Costa Rican sound man Ricardo. He's also a jazz musician (upright bass - and damn good) but more amazingly - he jumped in anywhere he could. He is now working at the clinic organizing and handling patients as they wait.
He and gave a crackhead the bum's rush yesterday. The Nica military guys all came over and gave me high fives. Their presence was heavy as they supervised us - but very professional and we took good care of them.
Medical service delivered. Shoes, delivered. Instruction materials - delivered.
Photos to come. Over and out.
