(RNN) – A Florida police sergeant accused of owning Trayvon Martin shooting targets and offering them to fellow officers was fired Friday, according to officials.

WFTV reported Sgt. Ron King, who has been working with the Port Canaveral Police Department since January 2011, was fired after an internal investigation. Port Canaveral is about an hour away from Sanford, where George Zimmerman shot and killed the unarmed Martin in February 2012.

King allegedly offered the targets to two other officers while supervising a firearms training event on April 4, according to interim Port Canaveral CEO John Walsh.

The event was held at the Brevard Community College campus in Cocoa, and all the officers were on duty at the time, according to Walsh.

The two officers claimed they declined to use the targets, and there was no indication King used them.

"Whether it was his own stupidity or his hatred, we don't know," Walsh said. "However, on any level it is not acceptable for us or anyone in society to act this way."

Walsh said he became aware of the incident Thursday, a week after the chief of police initiated an investigation.

King has seven days to appeal his termination, but Walsh said the city has no intention of accepting an appeal.

According to officials, King purchased the targets online.

"Using a dead child's image as target practice is reprehensible," said a statement from Benjamin Crump, the attorney for Martin's family.

Zimmerman admitted to fatally shooting Martin after a fight in his suburban neighborhood, but claimed the shooting was in self-defense.

He is currently out on bond and awaiting trial scheduled to begin in June.

The latest coming out is a massive cover up by the Miami/Dade PD. They were burying arrests of high school kids, in one instance involving Trayvon changing a "stolen jewelry/burglary tools" charge to "found jewelry" and then mothballing the evidence. He was suspended for a total of 53 days the last year he was in school and had no official police record but a whole bunch of things that were simply buried. They did this at the urging of the Chief of Police, who was appointed by the School Superintendent (seriously, you can't make this stuff up) and was given the task of reducing the juvenile crime rate in Miami/Dade. The Police Chief instructed his officers to change juvenile arrest reports to "school-related incidents" and moving them to a non-criminal file, and let the school suspend the student with no juvenile arrest record. Trayvon was arrested many times and would have had quite a rap sheet if not for this policy. Marijuana baggy and pipe was changed to "tobacco." He also punched a bus driver in the face.

It's all blowing up now. Plus DeeDee lied about talking to Trayvon just before he died. She likely didn't talk to him at all that day. The attorney Crump, who recently coerced $2 million out of the HOA, is fighting a request for deposition in the DeeDee witness coaching case. The fact that they haven't dropped all charges against Zimmerman is staggering.

A person selling gun range targets modeled after slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin says that their “main motivation was to make money off the controversy.”

WKMG’s Mike DeForest reported on Friday that the unidentified seller told him that the targets “sold out in 2 days.”

“The response is overwhelming,” the seller said.


Photos of the item, which was titled “10 Pack Trayvon Martin Targets,” showed crosshairs over a hoodie similar to the one Trayvon Martin was wearing when he was shot by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in February. The figure has a bag of Skittle in his pocket and is holding what appears to be a can of iced tea, similar to what Martin had purchased before being gunned down. The pack of 10 targets was being sold for $8.
