Spent a lot of "wasted" hours in my late teens listening to that album. Still holds up 40 years later as pretty damn good

I was 9 when it came out, but never really got into it until I was around 28 yrs old... I was banging my head in the mean time.

NEVER a fan of that record. I just didn't get the hype, and still dont.
It makes me feel shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

What a great piece of work.
Now there's a lyric that is timeless and will stay with me until I die.
Just a great album musically and lyrically. It's inspiration is pretty profound as well.

You really have to take it into the context of the time it was produced as well.
Back then, synthesizers were new, and the stuff that Pink Floyd produced with that cutting edge technology, was woven seamlessly into a melodically beautiful album.
Musings of everyday life and experiences, translated into perfect harmony. It transcends every living generation, and everyone can relate to it in some way or another.

Like I said earlier...many wasted hours listening to it.
However, there are very few albums made 40 years ago that still sound so relevant.
And let's not even get into the absolutely amazing sync with Wizard of Oz:barnbabe:

I bought the LP the day it was released. Upgraded to cassette for the car. Then to a CD, and to the remastered CD. Now it occupies a space in the 12 disc in the Coupe and on my ipod. I can still listen to it daily after all of these years.

How?! I'm mean how can you listen to "There is no dark side of the moon. Really. As a matter of fact it's all dark" after 40 YEARS!
I tried. I honestly tried. I tried listening to this drunk, high, mad, happy whatever. It never mattered. I still think its overrated.

Surprised you feel that way as that album, and that song in particular, has some of the greatest riffs ever pulled from a Stratocaster. My nephew is 25 and is getting into that album right now. He pointed me towards a live version of The Flaming Lips doing the whole album. They did a good job, but some things just weren't meant to be covered.

Still listen to it. Old is a relative term. Depends on which side of the fence your on the before 50 or after 50:D:lol::cert:

Well, yes. Yes I do. :yesnod:
Except for "Money", I could listen to it just about daily and never tire of it. I suppose "Money" fits the theme of the album, but I always felt it was just 'radio crap'.

That was a great documentary, Apex. Thanks for posting it. All the band members come across as great guys - even Waters, despite most believing him to be a raving egomaniac.
It also reveals a bit of trivia that not many know: Alan Parsons was the EMI sound engineer on Dark Side. This was just before his days with the Alan Parsons Project. As was shown in the documentary, Parsons did *much* more than mix the sound; he was part of the creative process for that album. :seasix:
I became a fan of Alan Parsons Project long before I knew of his involvement with Pink Floyd and Dark Side. While he was offered a role in the recording of Pink Floyd's The Wall, he was too busy with his own projects by that time.
Good stuff and good memories. :cert:

The Flaming Lips Doing the entire Dark Side album...Starts @ 40:30
A good friend of mine was The Flaming Lips producer for their first two albums, and I've partied with them back stage during an STP, Butt Hole Surfers, Flaming Lips concert. Needless to say it was quite an experience. Thank goodness my wife was there to keep me in line..:D
Anyway, check this out. It's out there, but imagine being there? Dixie is the singer..

That's the difference between us and them; They want to eclipse time with money, chasing the big gig in the sky; while we can breath on the run in any colour you like and suffer no brain damage.

It's worth a lot more sealed for sure if he wants to sell. My copy has been played a fair amount but now I have it framed and on the wall. I think all the new 180 gram high quality LP releases have hurt the MFSL prices.
I bet the Wall MFLS sealed is $300-400 bucks. Saw an Ebay listing for Atom Heart Mother, MFSL sealed for $450 and lots of other sealed stuff from $100 to over $500.
