View Full Version : OK, so I'm on a "diet" for the last two weeks...

So far have lost 6 pounds. Haven't been hungry really (nothing more than normal.) Actually don't really feel like drinking very much beer. Wine tastes a lot better to me. Believe me, this is unusual (the beer part.) But the best part is that I can eat the hell out of meat. Today we went to the Home Show and it was right next to Sam's Club. Popped in there to pick up some ribeyes for dinner but what did I see? They had beautiful ahi tuna, fresh and just flown in, for $12/lb. I bought about four pounds of it, assuming my buddy Allan would want one of the packs (he's a tuna lover as my wife and I are.) But if he doesn't want it for some reason I'll just freeze it.

So I'm going to grill these two big tuna steaks, each about 1.5" thick, nice and rare, slice them up, and chow them down with wasabi and soy sauce. Asian green beans and salad on the side. Then tomorrow ribeye steaks. It's a hell of a way to "diet"! :D

I have a friend who has been doing the low-carb thing for years now. He is still fat. Thing is, he really doesn't do low-carb. He tries to starve himself in the morning, eats out nearly every meal he eats, and orders stuff like appetizer platters with ribs with BBQ sauce, breaded fried wings, and breaded fried jalapeno poppers. That's just what I've noticed, he thinks breaded fried food is OK or something.

I've been doing a low-carb diet, just paying attention to what I'm ordering, and staying away from breads and pastas.
In the last 2 weeks have gone from 190 to 180.

We'll see! Gotta get on that treadmill though and get some cardio while I'm at it. :(

got a 1.5 mile walk in yesterday and today right after breakfast, and dropped 1.5lbs yesterday to today.

that may not sound like much, but i'm down from 291 last sept. to 252.5 today. first 38+ were easy, it's the next 20 that will be hard. :sneaks:

Always is. My body has several set points. I'll hit my next set point in about 20 lbs. Feels good to lose some weight though. I plan on getting down to about 220 or so, which is really noticeable on me but I'll still fit into most of my clothes. :D

Started out at 258! :ack:

(I'm 6'5" though...)

Edit: Allan just texted. He's coming over for dinner and to pick up his tuna, whatever is left that is. I plan on chowing down on this stuff, it is high-quality ahi.

Could be. Also people on low-carb diets can get stuck and can't figure out why. For many of these, eating some carbs (like a bowl of ice cream or something you've been really wanting but "can't eat" will kind of jolt your body back into losing weight. I know it sounds weird, but can't hurt to try. I'm still losing steadily as I only started 2 weeks ago.

Thought I'd give a six week update. Down 12.5 pounds as of Wednesday and just today two belt notches. Weight loss has been very steady and averages 2 pounds per week roughly. Takes a little getting used to. I'm probably not doing it right since I like beer too much but have switched to Bud Select which sucks but since it tastes so bad I drink less. I have eaten a lot of eggs, sausage, chicken, steak, pork, salad, salad, salad of all kinds. Snacks are pork rinds, Baby Belles, almonds. I'm not much of a snacker but often I'll just eat a big breakfast and just munch almonds while playing a round of golf in the afternoon and be pretty hungry by dinner but not famished or anything.

Down 19 pounds. No sign of gout (something that I'd been having fun with occasionally the last couple of years.) Feel great, clothes are fitting much more loose. Favorite belt is on its last notch and its nearly too loose (three notches from where I started!)

For those of you who think losing weight is all about calories in/calories out and plenty of exercise, well, you need to watch this. Cause, well, it's simply not.

This is essentially a very thorough 50 minute summary of the book, presented by the author himself.

I recommend everyone go find some activity or set of activities that you can eliminate or postpone in order to watch this.

Everyone, that is, except TxAg. :nono:

TxAg, you should NOT watch this, or read the book. You won't like what you learn. I guarantee it.

In particular, TxAg, don't even think about watching the content beginning at 24:28. :seasix:

My initial target of 230 is only 11 pounds away. At my current rate I should, theoretically, hit that sometime around June 15th. From that point I may try the unthinkable and get down to 220, which if I worked out a bit, should make me look fairly decent in a swim suit. Well, as decent as a 52-year-old guy can reasonably look anyway.

What do you consider to be heart-healthy? I can factually state that a good number of items that most people consider to be heart-healthy are anything but. Conversely, many items that most people associate with a bad diet are actually just fine as long as you don't eat them in conjunction with other supposedly heart-healthy items.

I have no idea what "sarli" is but we eat roasted veggies all the time. I've ate more salad and veggies since starting this "diet" than I did before. My prior veggies tended to be potatoes and other starchy things. Now I'm substituting turnips for potatoes, and we have came up with some really tasty veggie dishes.

Tonight we are having beef tenderloin, spinach/ricotta dumplings sauteed in butter and sage, and a spring salad with roasted beets. At any rate, with this diet meat is perfectly fine and actually you can eat all you want of it, anytime you want it. I find myself eating less calories without even trying to. I just can't eat like I used to. Many days all I have for lunch is a handful of cashews or almonds and a couple of pieces of beef jerky, and I'm not hungry at all.

**** Four Month Update! *****

Down 30 pounds. My shorts are getting pretty dang loose, five more pounds and I'll have to seriously consider buying a bunch of new shorts and pants. Haven't tried on my jeans yet as it is summer and all I wear is shorts typically.

My wife hasn't lost near as much as me. I suspect she cheats at lunch, but she swears she doesn't. I'm so used to eating like this now that the idea of going back to the old way kinda grosses me out. I'll grill steaks on, say, Sunday and make enough for leftovers for a steak salad with blue cheese crumbles for Tuesday dinner. Last night was bone-in skin-on chicken breasts on the grill. There are some Chinese dishes I make now that I serve over tofu noodles, which are actually pretty dang good.

I do miss the occasional french fry or fried potato though.

I did low carb diet and lost 65 lbs over a year. The only issue I had was for working out. I do rotations of P90x, kickboxing, running and while I didn't feel tired doing low carb...I would definitely not have full power during work outs. I would get fatigued quickly 30 mins into a workout.

I started adding carbs back in the form of fresh fruit (straw/blue/blackberries, melon, bananas). I mostly go by calorie now...not really a diet per se...more of a healthy eating change. I work out 60-90 mins a day and keep myself to about 2000 calories. It is shocklingly difficult to fill yourself with 2000 calories of healthy food. :) Not in a bad way...I'm just full each meal.

Its hard going back to a carb based diet after doing low carb for years... But I am finding that my energy level for working out is much higher, and so I burn more.

I'm also taking a raspberry keytone supplement and another thermogenic type supplement called Lypo Black 6.
