I found an engine, its out of an RV, it is a jasper engine with 10k.needs new Carb, and the owner isn't smart enough to figure it out. He repaved the ordinal engine because it run right, and when he put in this engine, he used the same carb. My farther in law looked it over and said it just needs a new carb. $150, but is in Indiana.
On a side note, how new can i goo with a block and still be able to use my heads?

Your heads will work on anything up to late 90s as long as its not an LT 1 style. Your clutch and flywheel are only good to 85. The newer blocks are 1 piece rear main and have a different crank. Your flywheel wont work.

67-early 86, the Gen1 350 was essentially the same, there were economy versions, race versions, mainly heads, cam, lifter changes...but overall, same engine.
In Late 86, the L98 in the vette picked up ALuminum heads and in 87, Roller cam and lifters. It also, in I think 86 or 87, went to a 1-pc rear main seal. ALso got center bolt valve covers.
In trucks, they received TBI in 87, and used it until 1995. In cars, it used TBI, and port injection until it was replaced by the LT1 in Vettes in 1992, and F bodies in 1993.
In 1996, in trucks, The Gen 1+ or "Vortec 350" was introduced, basically a 350 block, with better breathing heads, intake, and a new Central Injection system...it was replaced in trucks in 1999 By the LS engines.
Gen2 was the LT engines, LT1 and LT4..different block, same crank, rods, pistons, etc..new intake and head setup.
Gen3 is the LS engines, LS1, etc..and in trucks the LR, etc...(4800, 5300, 6000, and so on).
Gen4 is 2005+...These were the LS2, LS3...and so on, displacement on demand features..

So any truck block prior to the 5.3l would work?

It will bolt up but you will need a flywheel to go with it.
