Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 23-year-old Las Vegas woman was arrested Tuesday for having sex with a pit bull in a yard.

The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. Police officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of North 16th Street, near Bonanza Road and Bruce Street.

Upon arrival, police officers said they observed the woman engaging in a sex act with the pit bull in a backyard, within sight of neighbors and passerby.

As police officers approached the woman, she said "hi" and began to fondle the dog.

Police officers retrieved a blanket and covered the woman, who was completely nude.

As they questioned her, it became apparent that she was either mentally ill or under the influence of a narcotic.

She was unable to provide police officers with her name, date of birth or social security number. She told police that she was bipolar but was not sure if she was taking medication.

She was later identified as Kara Elizabeth Vandereyk.

A neighbor in the area gave the woman clothes and she was placed under arrest.

Animal control was called to take the pit bull. The arrest report did not identify the owner of the dog.

Vandereyk faces charges for open and gross lewdness and was booked at the Clark County Detention Center.
