No OD type title, just this; in Las Vegas, this is beginning to be an almost normal thing to see on the news.

Family handing out flyers, hoping for answers in woman's death - www.ktnv.com (http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/191561341.html)

Friends and family of 28-year-old Josephine Butler are taking to the streets for help, in finding answers surrounding her death.

Butler's body was discovered in a dumpster on the east side of town, but family members say she was raised in the northwest Valley.

That's why they're passing out and posting flyers around area businesses, with the hope that someone who may have information about Butler's death will come forward.

Butler's family said they knew something was wrong when she went two nights in a row without calling her 7-year-old daughter to say their good night prayers.

They filed a missing persons report and the next day a detective showed up on the family's doorstep, letting them know Butler was dead.

Her body had been found stuffed in a duffel bag and tossed into a back alley dumpster near Craig and Nellis.

Family members said, because of the gruesome way Butler died, they won't be able to rest until someone comes forward with information.

Craig and Nellis, hell, that's the high rent district!!! Sad for her and her family, but I'll be damned if I would slow down in that area. That being said, me and another dude walked all the way back to base down Craig one night at about 4 a.m. from the Juke Joint. I was pretty much bullet proof by then though!!!:D

And you lived! Nellis and Craig is definitely the 'hood. Not many tourists hang there and if they do, they'll have stories to tell "Burt and Margaret" back home.

What I like about being at Nellis is the smooth refreshing sound of gun fire at all times of the night and helicopters overhead with searchlights on outside the wire. Afghanistan probably doesn't hold a candle to that area of town!:D

Send it to one of the CSI teams, or Criminal Minds.....they can ALWAYS solve any dead body case. They have all the latest cool equipment!

:lol: It's true. Where we lived was a relatively quiet area yet choppers overhead were common.

Iraq is a happy comparison too. The only difference is IEDs and VBIEDs.

Why is 28 yo Josephine CALLING her daughters every night? Why doesn't the daughter live with Josephine, in the traditional mother/daughter arrangement? Reading between the lines tells me that Josephine is probably into drugs or something else that prevented her from being a fit parent. Sounds like the grandparents are raising the 7 year old.

Sea Six, considering your LEO background, do you read this the same as I do?

Yes way. Usually they are associated with religion and politics threads.

Where is the 7yr olds father mentioned in this story?

What are the odds that Josephine is a hooker....

Lot's of facts left out of the statement and the vid.
Where did she work?
Why was she not with her 7 YO two nights in a row?
Where's the BF?
How was she killed?

This is Vegas. This is the part the LV Visitors and Convention Bureau aka Come Lose Your Money In Vegas Bureau doesn't tell the tourists about. One of the saddest is the runaway underaged girls forced to hook.

...No one shoud die like that

The article didn't actually say how she died, just how she was disposed of.

I'm bored and have some free time so I looked up the FBI stats for LV.

For 2012:

Violent Crime 5,629
Murder 32
Forcible Rape 301
Robbery 1,795
Aggravated Assault 3,501
Property Crime 21,895
Burglary 6,619
Larceny/Theft 12,150
Motor Vehicle Theft 3,126
Arson 118

This is from a population base of ~1.5M. No wonder the Clark County jail is a happenin' place. :D

Even so, LV can be a fun place as ~140M people visit each year. As Lallend can also tell ya, the neigborhoods can feel like just about any other city in the US.

No OD title needed, either. :sadangel:
