I'll bet there's some skeletons in his closet about to come out.

He is citing health issues.

He is citing health issues.

Im guessing...he either has discovered:

1. There is no God

2.There is a God and he is pissed

3. He no longer prefers young boys

I nominate Samuel L Jackson for the next pontiff...

Maybe he just feels he can't do the job anymore.

He would not be the first servant of The Lord to question/lost Faith if that was the issue. If so, good for him to recognize that he should step down from a leadership role.

Regardless of his reasons, I never felt his heart was truly dedicated to his position and I hope that whomever they find to become his replacement has the vision to lead the Catholic Church in the direction to suit their followers.

He is 85 years old, and he seems to be having health problems.

Maybe they'll plug someone in who's a little more in touch with 2013's issues and concerns, yet still uphold the tradition's of the Catholic Church.

Let's hope.

When every Pope is 70+ years old-exactly how are you gonna find someone like that?

Not every 70 year old is a fossil, but I understand your point.

These remarks are just plain stupid and imature as far as I am concerned. If the Pope feels he can not do his job as it should be done then I believe he is doing the right thing by stepping down.
