cliffs: tired of smoking, bought ecig, best thing since hookers and blow, not really a smoking cessation product, lungs feel better, can get my fix where I couldn't with traditional cigs. Have been smoke free for 7 days now and loving the lung capacity and new found tastebuds. :)

**************************
Saw another post a few weeks back about ecigs and picked one up recently. Thought I'd pass on a recommendation and review on a ecig I purchased last week. I was out in LA the prior week and one of my friends had it and after trying it out, and liking it, I purchased one when I returned home. Its been a week now that I've been smoke free and my lungs are happier. There are a few other benefits I've noticed as well.

So I picked up a ProVari V2 - it definitely isn't anything like a normal looking ecig - its larger due to the increased battery, volts and ohm rating. I was told that this is what makes it a great unit because the smaller normal looking ecigs you might pick up don't have the power to vaporize well enough so it lacks to someone that is (or was) more than a pack a day smoker like me.

I was a bit hesitant because of the size thing but damn am I glad I got past it. It has performed above and beyond my expectations. It gives the feel of hitting a cigarette and the exhale of smoke (water vapor) but gone are the nasty carcinogens that I used to get from a real cigarette.

I received my unit last Thursday and thought I'd use it in conjunction with real smokes while I cut down to only the ecig. Not so...because as soon as I started using it I had no need for the real thing anymore. The real test was Superbowl weekend - as I was heading out to Vegas for Superbowl and staying for a few days. I normally run through a cartoon of smokes as I sit on the black jack tables for 7 hours at a time or hit up bars/clubs till all hours of the night. Happy to report that I used my new ecig the entire time and never had the slightest need or desire to flip back.

OK so here's the basics. The Provari is basically a large batter unit that you screw in a cartomizer or atomizer that you can put a e-liquid that contains flavorings plus nicotine. You can get the liquids in varying strengths and flavors. I was a pack a day smoker and chose the 18mg nic strength and it seems to be holding fine for me. I like the flavorings as well - although I think it makes me like ecig more because it has a pleasant taste. I've ordered some flavors like very vanilla, cinamon roll, blueberry and coffee...but there are literally hundreds of flavors and sites to order custom flavors from. Cost wise I pay roughly $9 for a 15 ml bottle of liquid that lasts me about 2-3 weeks. From a cost savings standpoint I'm pretty pleased. I went from paying $7 a day x 30 or $400 a month to about $30 per month in liquid. You'll also have the cost of an atomizer or a cartomizer.

The cartomizer will actually hold the liquid longer so you refill less...you kind of drip 30-40 drops into it to fill and screw it on the battery unit to use. Lasts for a few hours if you smoke about as much as I do. The cartomizers fun about $9 for a pack of 5 and last about 2-3 weeks if you take care of them. You can also purchase a tank that will hold 3-5ml of liquid and I'll probably end up investing in that soon.

So other than the obvious benefits of lower costs, no burnt clothes, not smelling like cigarette smoke, not freezing my ass off to have a smoke, not smoking up my car, increased lung capacity (because the only thing you are taking in is water vapor laced with nicotine) ... I had some other pleasant to report benefits. First is I could hit the thing just about anywhere without people freaking out I was smoking (there's no smell). It went through in my carry on baggage through security just fine. I puffed on it while sipping cocktail waiting for my flight out after I explained to the bar tender it was an ecig. I believe there is some regulation on using it on an airplane however after take off, with my seat partners fast asleep I was able to take a few deep puffs on it and hold it in a bit so the exhale wasn't thick. I kept it a bit covert as I didn't want to offend people or make people think I was smoking for real. Again, I wouldn't recommend using it full bore on the plane...but a toke here and there discreetly didn't seem to raise ire. My wife is happy I don't smell like an ashtray anymore either.

I used it everywhere without issue...bars, restaurants, etc. I would normally let the waiter or manager know that I had one and again be discreet about it if I was in a otherwise traditional non smoking area. If I had a distributorship for them I'd probably have made a mint in the airport or vegas as I was always being asked about it. Last but not least the company that makes them is American owned, operated and made in the USA.

They aren't cheap...but then neither is smoking. The starter kit was $211 and included a 5 pack of cartridges, 2 lith batteries, the unit itself and the charger. I spent another $30 ordered different flavors of liquid as well.

Here's a vid on it...their website is ProVape E-Cigarettes: Buy Electronic Cigarettes & Smokeless Cigs (http://www.provape.com) - feel free to PM with questions...it can be a little confusing on what to order.

Awesome! :hurray:

I was just about to pull the trigger on a Provari or a Provari mini but the single button menu has kinda turned me off.

I am looking at this one now.

Would like to get one called Ikarus but it's tough to get.

What are you using as an atty/cart/tank?
I learned about something called stealth vaping a few days ago.
Works pretty well.
After yo inhale, you wait a second and take another small inhale. Hold it for a few seconds and then when you exhale very very minimal vapour comes out.

If they are they are not doing a very good job with it.
There are at least 2 dozens hops to buy from online where you can get juice with or without nicotine.
There are also shops and storefronts all over Canada that sell the stuff.

Thats exactly what I did on the plane... Took a deep draw...held...then inhaled a bit more air before slow exhale. Worked fine...no issues.

I was worried about the menu system on the Provari... honestly though it took me less than 2 mins to figure out...and I whiz through it now. I really don't do much other than check the ohms of the cartridge and bump it up or down a few volts to taste based on what liquid I'm vaping. Very easy to use. Battery life has been better than expected. I got about 14 hours out of a charge in vegas - and that was using it pretty much non stop.

I'm just using the 510 XXL 3 ohm carts currently. They seem to work quite nicely - but I just ordered a 3.5ml DCT tank (should be in next week). I think I'll like not having to drip fill a cart so often.

Yeah I read that on the plane on some site and laughed. OK so lets ban the stuff that just makes water vapor out of propyl glycol, food additive flavoring and nicotine, that doesn't produce second hand smoke... But leave the one you that has these as OK...retards...

You wouldn't use the patch or gum anymore. I would almost guarantee that. But I don't see why you couldn't use in combo if you wanted.

I should note that my goal isn't so much to quit nicotine...as it was to shift away from smoking real cigs. I enjoy smoking...and that was the issue with quitting altogether. So while I still get the negative of nicotine...at least it comes without the carcinogens. Its amazing how quickly my lungs stopped wheezing after I stopped smoking.

You can get the liquids in varying levels so you could say start with 24mg of nicotine in the liquid...then move down to no nicotine over time.

I was just reminded that ecigs can make you really dehydrated especially if the juice you buy has a high PG percentage.

You need lots and lots of water.

Funny...because as I was puffing at a table at the Bellagio the guy behind me asked me if I'd tried running some hash oil through it. I said I hadn't...but then again I hadn't had the opportunity present itself quite yet. That'll be my next review. :)

I'm not a smoker, but I'm curious about these things.

If I understand this correctly it delivers nicotine without the danger of cancer or emphysema? Is there a drawback to the nicotine or is it just a stimulant like caffeine?

Is it meant as a means to quit (like the patch) or to continue smoking without the nasty side effects?

:confused5:

Gleaned from another site:
The carcinogenic properties of nicotine in standalone form, separate from tobacco smoke, have not been evaluated by the IARC, and it has not been assigned to an official carcinogen group. The currently available literature indicates that nicotine, on its own, does not promote the development of cancer in healthy tissue and has no mutagenic properties. However, nicotine and the increased cholinergic activity it causes have been shown to impede apoptosis, which is one of the methods by which the body destroys unwanted cells (programmed cell death). Since apoptosis helps to remove mutated or damaged cells that may eventually become cancerous, the inhibitory actions of nicotine may create a more favourable environment for cancer to develop, though this also remains to be proven.

I would not put it into the category of using as a smoke cessation product. While you "could" use it that way - they do make varying strengths of e-liquid (the stuff you fill it with) that you can start and gradually move down to zero with.

I took it as a health(er), not to mention extremely less expensive alternative to smoking 1.5 packs per day. The chemical content of traditional cigarettes include a list of carcinogenic chemicals. The liquid I now use to fill my ecig device contains 4 - propolene glycol (which isn't 100% healthy for you but in alot of products, vegetable oil, food grade flavoring, nicotine).

I'll handle the propolene as a possible "bad" ingredient...but it strikes me a much better alternative than the 100 or so cancer causing items in a traditional cigarette. I can say in the week I've been off traditional cigarettes my constant chest wheeze and coughing up in the morning has disappeared. I'm assuming that's healthy for me. :)

Yeah that definitely sounds like you're headed in the right direction. These sound like great products, if for no other reason that to get smoke out of the air and away from other folks.

I think the majority of the people that have a problem with smoking don't necessarily care what a person chooses to do to themselves. It's the collateral damage done to others. Sounds like this is a win-win. :seasix:

Have you heard of a guy from England that makes something called Grant's Vanilla Custard? He opens for business gets slammed with orders then closes again.
I was lucky enough to get an order in for 50ml of Grant's Vanilla Custard(the only stuff he makes) and can't wait till it gets here. Supposed to be the greates thing.

Tanks aren't complicated. They are pretty easy. They don't use wicks or anything like that. All as a tank is, is a means to hold more liquid for a cartomizer. So it slips over special cartomizers and keeps them soaked with juice.

The AGA T+ uses a wick and stainless steel mesh. It'll be my first one and yes I hear they are a pain in the ass.
The tanks from Kir Fanis are well known for great quality.
Make sure if youare vaping citrus flavours that you get yourself a glass or pyrex tank to prevent hazing or cracking. Citrus kills tanks and eats seals.
