'99 Exploder, 4.0 6 pushrod engine, locked up tight, can't flip with the snubber in either direction, starter drags new battery down to nothing.....
oil look dirty, but not water, water is full and looks normal....
ran rough as shit, restarted several times, then it finally died.....towed to my driveway......
belongs to wife's daughter, same one that her hubby just got outta the hospital after back surgery....Damnit all, just DAMNIT!!!!!

How many miles?
May be the timing chain, its a known issue.

Pull the plugs out, disconnect the ignition coil...try and bump it with the key.
Good chance of a blown head gasket, faulty injector, etc..dumping in fuel. or the timing chain, those were bad too.

RED, I can flip this engine about 1/2 inch in either direction with a breaker bar on the snout....that's IT....the bolt moves after that....and I am putting some FORCE on it.....
what this tells me is the engine is essentially JUNK....hoping for some reprieve on that judgement.....

Borked fly?? I would say the starter would not be jammed up.....
but spin freely.....it's a automatic, anyway, and the TC would tend to stabilize the outer gear,
I had one of them center flex plate failures, years ago, the engine would appear to crank, but the accessories were not moving....
sheared around the center of the flex plate....the metal gave it up.....

Dropped a rod?
I've also seen a dropped valve break apart and go into other cylinders locking it up. As long as a piston didn't go through the wall, it should be rebuildable.
