Although the little brown jar of vanilla and the little brown jar of liquid smoke look alike, they are not interchangeable.

I taught a cooking class several years ago back in NY...one student's assignment was cornbread.

I had to taste everything made...needless to say I spat it out as soon as I tasted it and said, "This is the worst cornbread I've ever had...tastes like dog food!" :wtf:

Turns out, he accidentally used salt instead of sugar in the recipe. :ack:

They look alike, vinegar and water, but don't get the two confused. :datawiz: :D

True story: Right after the birth of my daughter, my MIL came over to see what kind of food she could cook us. She asked me what my favorite pie is. I said, "Rhubarb! But it's hard to find here in the South."

Next weekend she came over with a pie. "I didn't have any trouble finding the rutabagas, but I couldn't find a recipe for a rutabaga pie, so I just made up one." :leaving:

Another one of her dishes: MIL brought over some yellow squash cooked with onions. I was outside working up a sweat on something. I came inside to find wife and MIL sitting at the kitchen table. I started to smell something stinky, kinda like a sweaty underarm. I did a quick sniff test on myself, but that wasn't it. My nose led me to the pot of squash and onions on the stove. Yep, that was it.
