How long do you typically keep your daily driver?

Do you get rid of it because it's worn out or because you get tired of it and want something different?

Three years. Its not that they're POS, I'm usually just tired of 'em after three years. Since I typically buy used, the three year flip isn't as painful financially as unloading a new car after three years. (Which I HAVE done BTW)

Till it dies. But I'm a bit of a pack rat.

I flip a lot of cars, so I usually drive whatever I have for sale. I do hang on to a back up plus my garage car. I just gave my '97 Tbird LX/LE to my son and replaced it with a '98 Eldorado. I had the Bird four years and used it as both a back up and a dd.

I've had my Mustang for 14 years. For a few years it was the toy and both an 87 Camaro and a 77 Grand Prix were the drivers. Now it's the DD and the Vette is the toy.
I'm a cheap bastard, it'll be here until it breaks.

I've had my 03 Tacoma for 8 years now, I only put about 7000mi per year on it and I still like the way it looks, so I wont be getting rid of it for a while yet. I plan on giving it to my girls when they start driving, they can either sell it and get something 'cool' or just drive it, I wont care. We typically try to keep our daily for at least 10 years or 100k whichever comes first.

I couldn't bear to get rid of my old truck. She's stuck with me through thick and thin. Like and old friend.

get tired of it and want something different.

But in my older age; the time lag is longer. Would keep a DD 2-3 years, max. Nowdays it's more like 5-7.

On average, just a couple years. Since I got the new vDub, I plan on keeping this one much, much longer. :D

I had a new 91 Chevy truck and sold it to buy a 99 Chevy truck. Still have the 99. :seasix:

Ive mostly had Vettes for dd. I kept one 14 years and Ive had the current one 14 years and see no need to replace it. Had a couple in between for a couple years each.

It depends on how much I like the car. My '02 Civic failed me this morning. Cranked, but wouldn't start. It's on borrowed time.

I've had my C5 for almost 11 years, my Tahoe for about 6, but I had another C5 for a year and sold it, I've had my current Diesel for about a year and a half i've put almost 30,000 miles on it, but i'm starting to get the itch to replace it already.

Those statistics amaze me. I never would have thought a bunch of bawlers like you guys would own something that long. In Canada cars don't last that long from the salt and rust. I guess most of you are in warm dry climates. :clever:

I win though.....22 years and counting for my little mule!http://www.imageenvision.com/150/29776-clip-art-graphic-of-a-frustrated-man-flipping-off-the-smiley-face-on-a-pump-at-a-gas-station-while-going-broke-over-filling-the-gasoline-tank-of-his-pickup-truck-by-djart.jpg

I've had my C5 for almost 11 years,

My 2002 reached age 11 1/2 before selling it last month. Longest I've ever kept a vehicle (was not a DD though)

If I do get a C7; I'll take it to my grave. Mainly because I will never be in a position again where I'll have the money and/or can justify the purchase of a non-daily driver.

However, I've had three of my vehicles 8 years or longer.

I don't have a daily driver but my wife does and she leases so...

Since I flip around three years, I'd be a candidate for the lease lifestyle. My problem is mileage. I just drive too much for a lease.

Seriously I think Minnesota cracks open a new salt mine every year for the roads. Shits unreal my 05 f3fiddy has a couple spots starting under the paint on the rear wheel wells already :slap:.

2-3 years...I'm horrible.

Trying to hold on to the one I've got now for a while and put money to the side to pick up an early C3 as the toy, rather than continually buying a new DD as a new toy.

We'll see how that works...

I drive way too much... I average 20K a year of seat time.

The good news is that my 08 civic SI has treated me well. Gonna hold on to it for another two years so I can get myself a vette for fun.

My DD just passed 13 years in service and the wife's DD is, I think, closing in on 8 years. Both were brand new cars and we (meaning: I) take care of them so we're in no hurry to replace them.

I drive about 30k a year. So 4-5 years is about it. I did keep my 02 super duty until 08, so that was the longest I have had a vehicle.

I have more $$ than sense...Not that I have a lot of $$, I just have no sense.

I drive about 30k a year...

Ouch.

I think if I were driving that much, I'd buy a new Ford Focus and drive it five years. Then I'd replace it with another Ford Focus. Rinse and repeat.

Of course, the yin to that yang is, "If you're going to spend that much time in your car, you might as well really enjoy it."

When I was working I normally turned in my DD loaded 4x4PU every 2-3 years. That keep me in a new vehicle mostley under warranty protection. I normally traded in with the truck in real good shape with 40-50,000 miles on the clock. I had a good dealer/salesman and could get a decent treatment at that dealership as my wife and I did a lot of business there!

Now retired and my present 4x4 truck is going into its fourth year and as of now I have no plans to get rid of it. Most times we take my wife’s SUV or in the better weather the Vette goes out!
