View Full Version : US auto dealers need to take lessons from Japan
I needed a new thermostat for my wife's Honda. The local version of "Autozone" had to order it so I figured it would we would stop by the Honda dealer to see if they had one.
So we get there, they don't speak English and I don't speak Japanese. I had printed out a picture of a thermostat and ran "1999 Honda Capa thermostat" through Google Translate and printed out the result.
Got the dealer and everything was going smooth until we ran into a snag when I think the dealer thought we wanted it installed. Ran into a major language barrier. One the salesman goes and gets a laptop and pulls up a translate program. Little back and forth but we got it figured out and I got the part I needed.
I doubt any dealership in the US would have gone through all that for a $20 part. Even offered us something to drink while we waited.
They cater to mexicans. :leaving:

Pics of Japanese hawt womenz at car dealership?
And I agree, US dealerships suck. The customer service is 99% terrible. I tried to order a $2.00 O Ring from Munday chevrolet and the Beaner Vato parts guy told me I needed to order the entire Dry sump tank for my Z06 because "Youse no can get just the Orings". The bastard have a Vato price and a White person price. I have seen it when I went in there to order some interior trim clips. They didn't know I could habla.
So instead of $700 for a new tank, I went to Parkway Chevy in Tomball and they ordered the O ring for me and charged me $2.15.

I love visiting Japan. I don't think I've ever met a more courteous population in my life. :funny:

Dude, NYC has the same issue, they just handle it different.
The Japanese are incredible civil engineers and really an amazing group of people. Shit just works over there.
You could have the same systems here in MIA and between the east coast refuse and third world refugees it'd be a disaster with multiple homicides inside an afternoon.
I have traveled extensively in Asia. Service is so far above American standards in most places. Airlines, Hotels, Restaurants and all sorts small shops they WANT to make you happy and the stores WANT to make a deal.

I noticed you didn't mention the massage parlor service. Don't exclude......

I know. But you do realize that Japan doesn't have an immigration problem. They don't have poverty stricken countries sucking the life out of them like we do.

Just remember that most of them truly despise you. For all it's outward congeniality the Japanese are the most racist and Anti Foreigner place I know of in th world.

And they DEFINITELY don't want to be reminded about how they acted in WWII.

It's not just people from poor countries that make life on Miami difficult.
The Americans from the North East play a major role as well.
Granted I'm using one of the most vapid and indefensible places in the union's most retarded state as an example.

Fixed.

Under the veil of courtesy, it is still Fuedal Japan in the business and private world. Barbarians gajin are outsiders and they are tolerated.

You're tellin' me. Red Light district down in Shinjuku. I had heard a lot of stories. You KNOW I had to go see it for myself once we were there. :funny:

That has not been my experience at all. In fact, this whole attitude that the Japanese despise anyone that is not Japanese is dying with the older generation.
The people I have encountered in Japan that are my age (30s) and younger are more than just courteous. They want to hang out, have coffee, have you join them for a beer or dinner. They want to know what it's like to live in the U.S., they want to tell you about what it's like to live in Japan. They offer to be tour guides, etc.
There's certainly a national pride that they have. However, there are a lot of stereotypes that are just simply not true with the new generations.
I don't know, but I heard all their toilets are squat types.
Then again, I also saw on TV the Toto paperless toilets that hose you down (or spray up in this instance) and blow hot air up the bung.
Maybe the Totos are for export only.
WTF

Very true. I've have never gotten the feeling that they despise us in any way. Very friendly people that will bend over backwards to help you out. We had a guy a few months ago get lost in Tokyo. With limited English he asked a local guy for help. The guy drove him almost 2 hours back to the base and refused to take any money for doing it.

They have both the squat time and the "Western" type. And yes they do have the "spray your ass clean toilets".

Neighbor of mine just 2 houses away, in the Md. burbs of DC, he was the honcho for the Japanese Export/Import Bank.....
Toru and Midori Tokohisa (sp?) were the sweetest couple, and we spent nice times with them....this all in the early/mid 80's.....and their englush was lots finer than the 'merican' we speek wit......
and in a city where fully 90% of the cars on the roads were of overseas/foreign brands, it was amazing that he drove....
a CHEVY CITATION@@!!!!! seriously, one of two on our street....I asked about it's reliability and he said it was fine.....no issues....
so go figger.....:shots::kimblair:
