I have been reading about DIY water wells. Interesting stuff if you cull out the contemporary, naive "survivalist" material. This summer I might try drilling a few holes for use with a custom-made ground source heat pump system in the shop/Vette barn. I already have most of the equipment it would take, so my time and some pipe is all it would cost.

The water table here is only 14-feet in sand, so it looks like it will be pretty easy to hit water.

Of course the weather is freezing and not good for messing with water outside.

wife and I have "dug" our own well.

not that hard. well pipe, caps, and Mjolnir.
of course, the water table we were aiming for is only 30 some-odd feet.

dig enough of a hole so that the first pipe (with the tapered end) will sit upright, put cap on pipe. Hammer it down. remove cap, add another length, put on cap, hammer.... repeat until the pipes fill up with water.
took us about 5 hours.
