Lets talk about the C7.

One thing I see on this video that is weird. The base C7 FE1 has no rear sway bar. :confused5:

I don't care about other's opinion, it does looks like the Camaro's tail lights.

Electronic diff will be the shiznit. I had an Evo for a minute and that electric diff really helped it tune understeer/oversteer as needed going into any given corner. basically it firms up the LSD or lets off to get the torque to whatever side it needs to be on the most.

I'm liking electric power steering for daily driving plus it frees up the pump and hose mess off the front of the engine. I've already had two cars with it (one traded away for my current DD). They feel good in corners imo.

the syncro rev matching on the manual trans will be great because I have a hard time with heel-toe and tend to jab the brake pedal a little too much when rolling my foot over. I say let the software do its thing and I'll work on trailbraking with the exact pedal pressure the car needs at that moment.

I don't care about the taillights. If it is a sales bomb and there is leftover stock, it will make it just that much easier to negotiate a better price at the dealership.

Seems most don't like the rear tail lights, but they are slightly different than a Camaro. They are okay in my book.
About the sway bar in the rear: do you think they designed the chassis to where it may not need one?
Is it still using a Bose's sound system?

Round tail lights would not look correct with the overall sharp edges and accent lines. They fit the styling.

I like the interior- agree it resembles later C4's, and since I like my 94...:seasix:

Overall impression - very cool car, and leading with technology that's affordable (for that market) is :seasix:.

First things first, got to finish the interior on the 71. :hurray:

I like most of it and would love to give one a test drive. Don't care for the rear end (including the Camaro tail lights). I really like the interior and some of the improvements to the suspension and power are pretty cool. I won't be able to fully decide on the looks until I see one in person.

Like most, I think the tail looks like a Camaro that got rear ended. I love the new interior....very much so. It will light years ahead of what it replaces. Enough to make me part with $60K plus?? I think I'll keep my trailer park Vette.

Love the jet cockpit, C4 interior styling cues. I see a lot of the instrument pods and switchgear in almost the same location as in my '92. It would make for a very familiar, intimate driving facility, indeed.

The electrical steering doohickeys look cool, too. Can't wait to read the performance reviews.

I do not like the rear tail lamp lenses. That would be my first Mid-America mod if I had the 60K to plunk down on one.

It'll be fun to see 'em up close and personal at CI-III in May. :yesnod:

I guess I'm in the minority... I like the rear. Granted, I can't stand the narrow body C6s. They are about the most boring, uninspired, bland Corvette ever created.

Other than not being round, there really isn't much similarity between the Camaro and Vette lights. To top it off, the entire center of the Vette lights are recessed whereas the Camaro are flat.

http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p90/botch1980/Random/1-1-1.jpg

If you try to isolate features you are going to be able to find similarities, which I have no problem with across a brand's lines but when it comes down to it, nobody is going to confuse these 2 cars. The picture below has the correct height/width ratios:

Ohhhhh... estimated base price = $53,000. I might have to make that happen. I have had my 02Z since 2005. I never even remotely considered going to a C6 for quite a few reasons (don't want to turn this into a C6 bashing thread).

The C7 on the other hand looks like the first Vette since the C5Z actually designed from the ground up to be taken to a track. From the seats to the trand/diff coolers to the vented hood... everything about it looks fantastic. I'm hoping that the new engine doesn't have the tendency to turn itself into shrapenal like LS2/LS3 as soon as you put it on a track.

I might have to hold out for another year or 2 to see what the Z06 (or whatever they plan on calling it) has to offer.

PLRX
01-28-2013, 1:50pm
I agree with you, the Base C6 is one of lamest looking Vette since 1975-1976 models. I loved the moment the C6 came out, but the C6Z just bumped it off the map. I think the C6GS would be the best bang for the buck on looks, and performance.

Now, the more I learn about the new LT1 engine the more it impresses me. That thing is just a sleeper beast. The new tires are not as thick, but if you guys read the new Michelins are very "sticky". Smaller tire, less energy needed to rotate, and needless to say faster acceleration.

Regarding the tail lights, they are what they are. GM will not change a design because a lot of future non-C7 Corvette owners are bitching about it. The fact is that for every one that bitches about it, there are seven that love the new look. I think it looks ok on all colors, but Laguna Blue. That will be fixed by the aftermarket with the blackout kits.

Now looks at this baby in black with HRE wheels. Don't tell me it doesn't give you a performance erection! :seasix:

... the tendency to turn itself into shrapenal like LS2/LS3 as soon as you put it on a track.

I think that was due to modifying the handling enough to put it into dry sump territory- not so much and engine issue.

Does the Z51 pkg on the C7 include dry sump oiling- I already forgot some of the details.

...and if it is $53k, I will think about getting a second or third year car, but waiting for the mid-cycle refresh will be the best thing (like when the LS3 came out). I know i'm going to be hating life when those new ones hit the road and my (butt ugly, lol) narrow body C6 is yesterday's news.

The LT1 article I read mentions a wet sump.

I think that was due to modifying the handling enough to put it into dry sump territory- not so much and engine issue.

The issue is in left hand corners for ~3 seconds over 1.1-1.2g.

We aren't talking about highly modified suspensions on race cars. You can EASILY do that in an otherwise stock C6 with nothing but some sticky tires and almost every track on the planet has at least 1 left hand corner of that length. No matter how anybody spins it, it is beyond pathetic that Chevrolet missed that and put out a Corvette that can't even survive an HPDE. Porsche, Ferrari... no problem. C4, C5 Corvette... no problem. WRX, STI... no problem. Mini Cooper, Mazda Miata... no problem. C6.... KA-BOOM!! :willy:

On the plus side (for me), it really does seem to have helped keep the value of the C5Z a little higher. While base C5s will most likely continue to fall, I think the Z06 with it's LS6 will on average be worth more than the base C6 fairly soon. They're already getting pretty close.

...and for the record, I don't think the C6 is at all ugly. They are just a little plain for my tastes.

well ok, I wasn't ever going to turn my coupe into a track toy- that's what Z06's are for. I've had it on a track stock and the oil did get up to 280-ish, but it never had a hicccup of any kind on stock rubber. Even my Evo used to suck air in the fuel pickup around Spring mountain's 180 degree (I think) turn 2 in the 3.1 mi configuration. That is one long left turn too.

I'm not sure the C7 coupe would be any better- we'll see...probably still gonna have to spend the big $ to get a model with dry sump oiling.

It better be! GM had a LOT of fallout in the racing community from the shortcomings of the LS2/3. The LS1/6 have no issues whatsoever in this regard. There are many stock wet sump LS6 cars that have survived a decade of track abuse. For that matter, the C4 engines have no problem. They are great on the street, but for whatever reason they really dropped the ball on the base C6 engines in terms of putting them on a track. After seeing the articulated dyno testing being done on the new LT1, I think they are well aware...

There isn't but three things I disliked about the C7... 1) I can't afford one,2)the taillights and 3) the rear fascia. The tail lights I can live with, but that fascia/license plate surround/ whatever you call it would have to be body colored for me to remotely like it. I'm not crazy about the vents immediately behind the doors, in the upper rear fender...what exactly are they for?

The C6, I've loved since day one. If I wasn't such a broke arse I'd buy one.

This years Lone Star Corvette Classic show was another good time. A group of us were treated to breakfast at a local GM dealership and we parked our cars under their covered parking area.

One of the best things was the Friday night escorted cruise to dinner.
the local LEO's stopped traffic all the way to our destination about 25 miles away. There were about 150 vettes, more than enough to lap the Texas Motor Speedway 1.5 mile track as they lined us up to head out. Here we are staged.

Same here, for about 5 minutes I was on the bandwagon about the tail lights but I got over that pretty quick. I would have one in a second if I could afford it. And the green was rockin.:yesnod:

I still have mix feeling about the tail lights. The day I saw it I no longer care about it.

The funny thing is the the 2014 Camaro no longer have "Camaro tail lights"

I think this is one BAD ASS rear end.

Round lights, much better. :seasix:

Not to worry. Within a year all the Corvette accessory suppliers will be selling round tail light kits for the C7 at about $1000 each.

Grapes and Doughnuts

A doctor had the reputation of helping couples increase the joy in their sex life, but alw ays promised not to take a case if he felt he couldn't help. The Browns came into see the successful doctor and he gave them thorough physical exams, psychological exams, and various tests. Finally, he concluded, "Yes, I am happy to say that I can help you."

"On your way home from my office stop at the grocery store and buy some grapes and doughnuts. Go home, take off your clothes, and you, sir, roll the grapes across the floor until you make a bulls eye in your wife's love canal. Then on hands and knees you must crawl to her like a leopard and retrieve the grape using only your tongue.

"Then next, ma'am, you must take the doughnuts and from across the room, toss them at your husband until you make a ringer around his love pole. Then like a lioness, you must crawl to him and consume the doughnut." The couple went home and their sex life became more and more wonderful.

They told their friends, Mr. & Mrs. Green that they should see the good doctor. The doctor greeted the Greens and said he would not take the case unless he felt that he could help them; so he conducted the physical exams and the same battery of tests.

Then he told the Greens the bad news. "I cannot help you, so I will not take your money. I believe your sex life is as good as it will ever be, I cannot help."

The Greens pleaded with him, and said, "You helped our friends the Browns, now please, please, help us."

"Well, all right", the doctor said. "On your way home from the office, stop at the grocery store and buy some apples and a box of cheerios... "

Dude if you can afford it, take a break. If you don't take a break, and start working you never will. I saved enough for 18 months, and my budget was way higher so I'm already on my 24th month. If I decide to cash my IRA that will buy another 6.5 years.:D

I finally saw my first C7 at the dealer in Carlsbad. It does not look much different in person than it does in pictures.

my take:
-ass does not look big in real life
-car/wheelbase longer looking
- a lot of orange peel on the paint for a $69k car
- front brake calipers much bigger looking in person (these kinds of details and other unseen stuff are going to make the car very improved). What a great base level of equipment.
-it was locked, but the interior look great.

The car was already sold -it was optioned up so high though, kind of puts you off on the whole possibility of actually trading up.

- a lot of orange peel

Something GM is notorious for doing. I agree, for a $69K car paint should be slick.

I saw three C7s this weekend at the OCMD boardwalk parade, plus one on the road after the show (pretty sure it wasn't from the show...it was heading towards OC). 2 of the 3 were customer cars. It DOES look better in person, somewhat. It also still makes me think C6.5...

I'm still not in love with it, but the bile has come down a little :leaving:
