Alabama is pretty flat, I guess.

Indeed. I swear the whole drive there was flat until you got into the park, and that last 12 miles had the entire elevation change.

We had a helluva time on the drive home yesterday. Had to pull over just across the TN border to wait out the tornado warnings the next county up. Kept watching the wind catch that little trailer, and it was white knuckle driving through that monsoon. That 'little' leak in the front window, in that much rain, ended up saturating the inside - had to dry the cushions out in my kitchen. :issues:

Sorry you guys had a bad time going home. Hopefully you'll get the leaks fixed for good!

I had a great time with both of you! :seeya:

She did. Still is, actually. We're stuck here thru Wed at the earliest. :banghead:

I lost my transmission less than three miles from my destination. Halfway up the mountain. In the lane of the highway. In zero visibility fog. Couldn't go forward or back. Couldn't disconnect the trailer due to the grade. $400 to tow the whole 11,800 lb rig up the mountain and take the van in for an $1800 transmission rebuild.

Van? You tow a big camper with a van?

A full ton E350 long wheelbase Super Duty 15 passenger bus with the best aftermarket second transmission cooler? With a class IV 10,000 lb hitch with weight distributing hitch and a sway bar? Of course- sure. Toughest transmission Ford makes. The only thing that would have been a better tow setup would have been a diesel engine.

According to the guy rebuilding my tranny, it was doomed. Had a defective part that allowed it to lose fluid and fail. With the new rebuild, it won't ever do that again.

Did the mechanic say which defective part it was?

Was there any noticeable tranny fluid on the ground when parked?

Well, I meant it was the toughest Tranny for this van. Obviously there are tougher ones in dump trucks, etc.

You don't even want to know what else I had to look through to find this after googling "toughest tranny." The other pics must have related to the dump trucks.

Can't Dixie sleep on the roof?

I went with friends to camp in New Braunfels, on the Comal River years ago. The big draw that year was that a friend of a friend was going to have his family's RV, so we would have "luxury accomodations." Turns out the friend got drunk and got caught cheating on his girlfriend (by said G/F) with a (what I heard described later as) real skank. Things were.....awkward.

I chose to sleep on the roof of the RV, to stay out of the drama. Fortunately, I didn't roll off in the morning before I actually woke up.
