It was mentioned in Sandy's thread about her daughter that my son is also in Afghanistan. Several people asked for his address. I finally have it will gladly give it to anyone that wants it. :flag:
And Sandy, thanks very much for explaining the process of sending care packages. :cert:

Can you put together a list of the things he likes? Stuff that will be relatively easy to pack and ship. :D
Also, I'm not sure if you can give a basic description of what he does/where he'll be. It may make a difference in what is sent and what he needs.
For example, I sent Caitlin an electric blanket for her bed in the barracks. Not really practical for someone mostly in the field.

Will put a list together tomorrow. Is he a grunt going outside the wire? Answer in PM eithercway please. If you can tell me his Unit, I could also look elsewhere for help ranging from goodies to advice for is AO.
I will only post a goodie list in public but it will look much the same like what I posted for the fruit of Sandy's loins.
Also dont post his job or unit for a bit. No need to tell people where and who he is (on public forum) especially if hes leaving the wire for open shit hole.

I can't find the big list I posted for Sandy's daughter but here's a site with a list of good and bad the list (http://www.bootsonground.com/soldier-restricted-items.htm)
Right now it's still O.K. to send chocolate. It's probably good for the next 6-8 weeks. Send soft toilet paper. That's always a luxury. I'd send cigars as they are used a currency, barter, bribes, etc... :D
Also, send the small travel size containers of liquid soap, lotion, shampoo, toothpaste and conditioner. Unscented is best especially if your son is leaving the wire. Whatever the soldiers don't use they can trade for stuff at the bazaar or give it to Haj for intel/information.
Also re-read Sandy's thread. There are a lot of good ideas in it. Also, PM me what your son does and if he does go outside the wire for convoys and/or patrols. If you can tell me what unit he's in, I can ask around and see what troops in the same situation are asking for.

Ask him if there are any accessories he'd like for his assigned weapon that he wasn't issued. Maybe a flash light that mounts on a picatinny rail or a set up where the light is controlled by a button on a front pistol grip. A lot of soldiers like those since they need the lights and it's better to have your weapon pointed at what you are looking at anyway. It kills to hajis with one stone so to speak (I jsut made that up :D)
Given the type of unit he is in, he doesn't have females assigned to it, but I'm not sure about the task force he's assigned to. If there are women in the TF, ask if there's anything they need. He will be greatly appreciated in more ways than one (and not in a showing up Joebuck way if you know what I mean...but that can/does happen).
I would also see if his unit chaplain needs anything and he/she will pay more attention to his platoon, company, etc... because he knows they are also looking out for the God-Liason. They appreciate that.

Everyone, please check out a FB page titled Huddle Up for Heros. The young man running it is named Christopher, he is about 12 years old, has aspirations to joing the Marines, and is always looking for adresses to send his hero bands and huddle boxes too. Donations are always welcome and he uses it strictly to support the troops. His mother monitors the page and she does very little other than help him execute his ideas. It's really a good thing and I'm positive he would love addresses for your loved ones who are deployed.

The actual flash light or the front pistol grip with the button he could press to turn the flashlight on? They aren't that much online.
Oh, and if you talk to any of your friends/relatives in Afghanistan via their cell phones, be careful with eVERYTHING you say. The wireless company that provides 90%+ of the cell service is named ROSHAN.....and it's owned by none other than Iran. Think they might be listening in? Of course they are.

Actually I think he needs both.
I'm pretty sure that he called from a USO phone. As far as I know, he doesn't have a working cell phone over there.

Good stuff. You can find the set up pretty cheap online and even get one with the bipod. Those do cost $$$ though, but much cheaper online instead of buying retail. I'll check for the one I saw, but I can't remember who made it. Light can also be substituted for a laser in some cases. Hell, EG would be a good person to ask but he mostly hands out on FB and CF.

Can you point me in the right direction? I wouldn't begin to know what to buy.
