View Full Version : Ugh. Am I really going to have to leave the USA one more time and travel to Canada??

My brother and his fiancee have decided to get married in Banff, Alberta.

No disrespect to Canada, I'm sure the place is beautiful since it's in a national park, but the trip is simply too long to drive which means FLYING if I go.

Nude X-Rays, Molestering Pat-Downs, and the intense, gut-wrenching, arm-rest clenching fear of being in a tin can in the sky.

Ffrfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

It's ok, identify yourself as an attorney and keep telling them you know your rights, they'll leave you alone. :yesnod:

If you have the time, $100, and don't mind a background check, apply for Global Entry, it will make coming back into the country much easier, AND qualifies you for TSA Pre-Check.

I'd drive. You will never get me on a plane again.
BTW: You will probably enjoy being patted down by the Canadians.
It's more of a fondle and a caress.

i'd pass.

they can get married anywhere they please, but choosing a place that is expensive to get to, and far away from family is selfish.

i'd wish them well and send them a modest gift.

The Canadians don't do it in Calgary. In the Calgary airport there are US TSA thugs handling pat downs.

Awww come on the best part of flying is the fondle err I mean pat down by the TSA. I don't recommend asking the TSA if it was as good for them as it was you since they don't seem to enjoy being asked.

NFW I'm flying again unless it's to leave the US permanently.

If you think your rights are being trampled on HERE, just where do you expect to find a fiscally responsible government, that doesn't impose more restrictions than the US. Your best bet will be secession. :yesnod:

But I just took a traveling position here at work, I'll be on the road half of next year, and honestly i'm really looking forward to not being in an office setting day in and day out.

I'm saved.

Just checked, for ONE person it's $450 for economy class round trip. ~8 hours as well. Ugh.

3 of us (wife and child) = $1300 just for flights, not including lodging, car rental, etc.

No ****ing way. We're still dirt ass poor and all the new income we're enjoying is being plowed into our massive credit card debt from all the years of being students.

We'd literally have to scrap and save from now until October (wedding) and ignore paying down CC debt.

I hate not to be there, especially for his fiancee who's family is dog-shit and likely will not attend. I want her to feel loved and welcomed into our family, but we can't afford to attend that wedding.

Meh. It's a wedding. Tell them you'll attend the divorce.

Will, just use my airport strategy.

Refuse the porno scanner, then strip down to your FoTL's and tell the TSA guy to rub you to his heart's content, right in front of all the other passengers. Let them see exactly what their own government is doing to its own citizens. Perhaps don a Speedo type swim suit so that you don't get arrested for exposure.

Of course, I would only do this in the Summer. Don't want to have to explain "shrinkage" to the ladies on my plane after we get underway.

Edit: as to your apparent fear of flying, can I suggest booking tickets that have you changing planes in CO or WA?

Aren't you a newly minted lawyer? Just file bankruptcy and get the CC debt discharged. That should be a do-it-yourself project.

People who put this much drama into getting on a plane need a life.

It's part of the process now. You just deal with it.

You should alternate.....next time, go for the prostate cancer/testicular cancer screening. For the ladies, the breast exam should prove invaluable.

Imagine that headline: TSA agent alerts traveler to cancer, saves traveler's life.

You could always take a BUS or a TRAIN! The scenery is extraordinary up there, in fact the train goes through mountain passes where there's no roads. And you can relax.

Will, is your brother doing some sort of "destination wedding" thing?

If so, kick him squarely in the balls. That shit is for your honeymoon, not for your wedding.

For once, I'm going to disagree. If Bear can't drive, he ain't going.

Banff is beautiful- I'd drive in a heartbeat. Where are we driving from?

Banff is a truely beautiful place. :yesnod: Went there a number of years ago on a ski trip. Would really like to go back some time.

As far as this whole "destination wedding" concept, I think it is incredibly self centered on the part of couples who do this. As said earlier...save that for the honeymoon

Or just do what this Portland man did when he objected to the TSA search.
