Who's doing it? Is it worth the time required to learn?

Buy the beans already roasted and grind them at home. Much easier :D

I've been doing that for several years, but it's not easy to find fresh beans and keep them fresh when I can find them. A good espresso needs fresh beans.
I buy from a local roaster, but in 5# bags. After the roasted beans get a couple of weeks old, they just don't taste the same. I think roasting my own would be fun and am wondering if anyone here is doing so, and if this is a skill/art that takes years to master or if a drinkable brew can be had early on.
Kuerig spoiled now. :needcoffee:

Buy a vacuum bagger for the beans you buy. Split them into Lb or 1/2 lb bags. The lack of air will keep them fresh longer.

Go out there and learn sonthin', get a few necessary pieces of equipment and start roastin' some of them thar beans.

I think you nailed it. I love learning new stuff and as a senior, I chalk up the expense to "therapy". If any of youse guys come to the Ozarks, I'll brew you a fine cup of home brew.

After you start roasting the beans, then you move on to blending.
