did not work as id expected. I took my casing off and took it out to the shop to blow it out with the air nozzel, and I got to looking at my new 240/30a welding outlet I put in a couple months ago. I had a spare plug so I wired it into a spare power supply cord and plugged it in, everything went great until I turned it on...

Is this something the geek squad could handle?

You just need to download one of those recovery programs. Everything will be fine.

I did the same thing and it's working just fine for me (twice as fast too).

What you've got to do is to point the machine so that it's facing slightly downhill. That way it can catch up to those extra-fast-moving bytes of data.

Somehow I think Red is pranking us. There is no way you are going to shatter a HD platter by plugging in to 220. Hell, most computer power supplies can handle 110V - 220V without doing a thing, to be compatible with Euro-power.

Gee, I wonder what that cord is connected to the main power socket in the lower right corner? Also I think that may be a Pentium or even a 486 processor socket, meaning that motherboard is at least 15 years old, more like 20.

You should all be ashamed.
The wanton destruction of a 1991 i486 socket 3 motherboard and a 2003
40 gig Laptop HDD are no laughing matter.
It's a sad reflection of today's youth and their societal values.
I weep for the future of the Pentium 5 and tape backup devices.:sadangel:
