I need to build an FAQ page for a new website for our burglar alarm systems.

The plan is the customers can order the system on line for a DIY installation. The devices are all wireless with the control panel plugging into a standard 110V outlet.

Obviously the target market is consumers that feel comfortable enough with a DIY installation, even though my grandmother could do it as it is pretty much plug and play. (well, not really my grandmother as she has passed, but you know what i mean)

So i ask the barners, what kind of questions would the target consumer want to see on a FAQ page?

Thanks fr your help. I'll fax everyone a beer that helps:cheers:

What happens if the power is down?
Can I hard wire the system?
Can I unplug the control panel and move it with no issues?

Waiting for my beer! :toetap:

Do the sensors plugin or are they battery operated? If battery operated, how long do the batteries last? Does the system tell me when a battery is getting low?

How far away can a sensor be from the control panel and still work?

What types of sensors are available? (Door, window, glass break, motion, etc...)

Can I have this system monitored?

Why should I get a wireless system instead of the normal hardwired system I normally see in houses?

Who can I call for help?

What is the charge for someone fixing my attempted self install?

Will someone be monitoring the cameras at all times? Even when I'm asleep? Or in the shower? Or having sex? Can I get a copy of those videos?

Only in VBOT.

I just did my own install a couple of weeks ago and these were some of the items I reserached first.

Believe it or not, I will add "what do the sensors look like?'' I wanted small unobtrusive sensors and some sites don't even show good pictures of their sensors let alone dimensions.

and even though a lot of the questions may be the same, I at least have this and some original questions to avoid a plagiarism lawsuit!

the website will make this pretty clear up front, so no need to have it on the FAQ.

But since it has come up a few times here, the answer is no land line or internet required. works on cellular.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, we may need to discuss this a bit to figure it out.

Dad always told me give me a half dozen diodes and a six pack of beer and I can build anything.

I just looked at the system-pretty trick. Especially the pet motion sensors. You are protected unless a midget breaks in.

I have a wired system from Brinks/ADT. If I was in the market, I'd definitely put this at the top of a short list.

What happens if somebody breaks in and quickly smashes the control unit? Can the control unit be hidden somewhere relatively inaccessible, even to the homeowner? And yes, what is the battery life. I'd be interested in such a system actually.

Good question that I havent touched on the website that I probably should. The answer is in whats called smash and grab protection. The alarm system is constantly in communication with the monitoring station since it is cellular. it's not only sending alarms when the system alarm goes off and it has to dial. any change in events is automatically sent.

so when the monitoring station sees a door open, or a motion detector etc, and it does not receive the disarm signal after that because the control panel has been destroyed, then they run through the procedure as if it had sent an actual alarm.

Still being developed and parked on the servers of the company building it for me. Has cost me a ton of money, hoping to be done with it and going live very soon.

Can I use motion detectors if I have pets?

Should I secure doors and windows in the upper levels of a multi-story dwelling?

How do I find out the laws and regulations about external alarm sounding devices? i.e. Horns/Bells

How do I prevent false alarms?

How long should I set the entry/exit delay?

Where should I install the keypads?

Why are customers so stupid?
