View Full Version : Propane heater question...

It's just a single burner that's screwed into the propane bottle outlet. My old one finally wore out. The new one has the same lighting instructions: Open tank valve, set the burner control to high, push the button and light it. The book also says that after about 30 secs. I can release the button and adjust the heat to either medium or low.
Mine takes several minutes before it'll burn on its own (without holding the button down) and another 5-10 minutes before I can turn it down to medium or low. This is killing my thumb! Is this a new design to conserve fuel, or is the heater defective?

I,m thinking its defective. I have the same one only its a two burner. It stays lit after maybe 20 seconds without any problems

sounds to me that the thermocouple is too far away from the flame.
so now you are playing with combustible gases?

sounds to me that the thermocouple is too far away from the flame.Or the pilot flame is too small.

Had one where I used to work, what we found was that if we just cracked the tank valve to let fuel through, it seemed to start easier, it seemed like the fuel was coming out with such force that it was "blowing itself out", until it came up to full temp.
Might try starting it on the low heat setting?

I would've never thought of that. I'll try it! :cert:

Get 4 underpaid, overworked, cold, pissed off mechanics around a heater that you have to hold the ignitor/warm up button for 3-5 minutes to get it started...and you get some resolution fast..
