One of our NASA-SE DE students lost his one-owner, 11 year old, right hand drive Skyline GTR this weekend to the notorious Turn 12:

Thank God he was a DE 2 student and therefore did not have an instructor in the left seat. He walked away from that but apparently had a wreck in the tow vehicle on the way home and got hospitalized for that.

Let's be careful out there!:sadangel:

I'm thinking a new hobby is in order...

Wrecks his car and the wrecker wrecks ? I'd get rid of that car. God hates Skylines.

Yikes! Hope he's ok! But i must ask, is that some kind of insurance scam statement, or did he really have two wrecks in one day?

Road Atlanta?

Yes, he really wrecked the same car twice. Insurance ought to be able to find the pictures easily if need be (Rare car) but might cover it under the "Driver Education" thing.
Road Atlanta?

I did the one day road race school there. In the Panoz you shifted into fourth as you went under the bridge at turn eleven with your foot to the floor, you could see nothing but sky. As you crested the hill you were looking at twelve at probably 100 and climbing. I was in lead-follow with the instructor, so you were always in the right place as your trajectory became known to you. I'm guessing if you don't have someone leading your way that's been through that course a million times, by the time you find out you're in the wrong place, you're already screwed.

<pours one out>

Love the R34 Skyline GTR. Would kill to own one. Wish they would have been over here starting with the R32. I'd probably own one if I was independently wealthy.

I'm with you. Love the right hand drive Skylines. Simple lines, not overdone, but still muscular looking. :seasix:

I've been driving them on video games for over 10 years.

Would love to drive one in real life. :smash:

I don't do video games. I've driven many right hand drive cars though. Drove a RHD Ferrari in Germany once. Now THAT made me a little nervous for a few minutes. Actually it isn't as hard to get used to as many would think. Just have to be careful when speed shifting until you get used to it. Shifting lefty is made easier with my being left handed though. :D

So for you the issue is driving Left-drive cars? :-)

When I was in the UK- It took me a bit to get used to staying all the way to the right and hugging the line. UK lanes aren't as wide as in the US. I did learn to love roundabouts with EVERYONE there knowing how to use them. I still prefer left hand drive.

Good luck getting the insurance co. to cover that.

Depends. Some will cover driver education events (which he was participating in.) Explaining wrecking the same car twice plus tow vehicle and trailer in 36 hours might be a challenge tho.

One year at PLM, I saw a Viper lose it in that turn and slide on its roof. Also saw some LMP's hit the barrier pretty hard.

It's one of the reasons I love AWD cars now for sure. :funny:

11 year old? So it was an '01 R34? Not road registered?

Japanese car brought over after his tour. Not sure if registered for road use or not.
