Here's proof.
Years ago, I would have thought this was a real accomplishment, something to be proud of.
Now, it just saddens me.

Why are you sad. People have been hunting for tens of thousands of years.
IMHO as long as the hunter is eating the meat or using it to feed the hungry, everything is golden.
Just too easy for people to go to the grocery store and buy meat.
Let someone else do the killing and slaughtering :ball:

I'm with you BW. Back in the day I would have been very proud of that bear. I couldn't pull the trigger today unless it was a survival situation.

I guess I'm thinking like a liberal and judging strictly on feelings. I know I can rationalize the taking, but at this point in my life I view that bear as a magnificent animal and it just feels wrong to kill it. A cow not so much.

Not sure where you're located, but in the suburbs of Orlando in Central Florida, Black Bears are becoming a big problem.
Looking at the picture again, his plastic bed liner does sadden me too, that truck is probably rusting under there.

Well since he's not holding a weapon, maybe he choked the f'ker to death with his bare hands...now then it'd be an accomplishment! :leaving:

250 lbs is nothing to write home about. That is really small.
i went hunting last year for the first time in about 20 years. got 2 antelope, both ended up in the freezer.
never got into 'trophy' hunting.
at the same time, zoos make me sad for the majestic animals that cannot roam free like i can.
and, to further muddy the waters, killing coyotes is permitted year around here, no license needed, just permission of the land owner. had a chance to shoot one last year that was near the house, but just chased him off.

Same with deer hunting, my buddies and I have a rule, no mamas w/fawns and no small bucks.
Now, this guy would be toast! <...and then steaks, sausage and jerky!>

I have no need to kill anything for sport,I don't hunt, though I have several assault rifles I never think about shooting a living thing.

Tons of my co-workers hunt, this is Minnesota after all. I never got into it. My uncle took me pheasant hunting when I was in my teens. I took a gun safety class, he bought me new boots, clothes, the whole nine yards.
When in shot my first bird, I just winged it. I remember walking up to it while it was flopping around in the grass and thinking: "This is pointless. Hunting ain't gonna be my thing"
On the other hand, I'm not anti hunting. It's just not for me is all.

It's better to hunt them than to let them starve to death from over population. As long as they harvest all of the animal like the native Americans used to do, even to say a prayer of thanks to the spirit world. :yesnod:
Just don't call hunting a sport! A sport is when you have teams that all have a chance of winning the game. :sadangel:

I never got into hunting, but I have no problem with people that do it and harvest the animal. Never understood trophy hunting. I fish a lot, but would never keep a fish to mount it. I catch and release almost everything.

I've not changed but have a somewhat similar personal philosophy. Doesn't bother me to kill things that are at least my size (with a reason) but never had the urge to harm anything larger than myself. Just feels like too much life form for me to be extinguishing all at once.
None of my business what others hunt though. Especially if it tastes good (so that excludes bear ).
I don't hunt, but because it ain't my thing.....I don't have a problem with people hunting and killing animals that aren't protected and in danger of disappearing forever.

According to the research I've seen stressing their population only results in increased numbers and expanded range.
Funny how humans think they can control everything... Now we're trying to interfere with the climate. What next? Alter the orbit of the planets?

Same goes with fish. Don't kill what you don't eat. If you catch a Marlin, tarpon, shark, let it go. Mahi, grouper, tuna, all go in the box.

I have been fishing since I could walk and can probably count all the fish I have kept. I try to keep one a season of each type I fish for. This year I did keep two Tautog, but no others.

Im not a fan of killing wild animals that are killed for sport, or trapped, or when dogs are used. I like to think that, hunting is hunting...tracking, sneaking up on your prey, and killing it.
not baiting it, waiting in a blind, for it to come along. Thats no fun, I dont see how people can be proud of that.
Wow, you put out a corn feeder and surprise...Deer came along, and you blasted them with a rifle/scope from a long ways away...thats so impressive...not.
im also not a fan of killing animals that man is taking their habitat away.
No im not a tree hugger, but, dammit...they were here first, and its only taken man a few centuries to royally **** up this planet.

People do change in regards to hunting. I have talked to many hunters who for whatever reason, just is not that interested in it anymore. Most still like to get out there but killing the animals no longer interests them. I guess once you get a good bit of pretty nice kills, you lose interest.

I do not hunt, but have no problems with others doing it as long as they eat it, or give the food to someone that will.
If I am fishing, most everything is going to get eaten.. period!
I don't fish for sport, I fish for food... to me I just enjoy being out in the boat and relaxing at sea under the stars the most.
To kill just for the fun of it or for a trophy? ehhhhh just not my thing.
As far as the chickens or the pig in my back yard, when the time comes to eat them, I will have no issues with cutting their throats.. :D

I agree with you I do not find any pleasure in killing animals unless they attack me. I find more value in animals than humans after dealing with humans for 30 years. This is sad to say.

In the wild, when a species population booms, it tends to overrun its food supply...first good drought, or famine...and you get a sharp decline in population, naturally...
In nature..sometimes, there's alot of some species. But only as much as the food supply can support.
