My wife just got a new Cadillac SRX and I have steering wheel envy. Would it be possible to retrofit a heated steering wheel to a 2008 Ford Edge (my winter beater)??

Jay, I'd be happy to answer that question.

I have no idea. :seasix:

I tried that. But seeing as how she bought me my GS for my birthday, that's one battle I'm not gonna win.

Naw, seriously Jay, here's what I would do if I were you.

First I'd get some gin. Not just any gin, though. It has to be something not quite bottom of the line, but not too expensive either (if you know what I mean). Next, buy one of those black apron-type things the servers wear at one of those restaurants like IHOP, or maybe Denny's. Depending on your personal style, you might also consider those places that serve overpriced burgers and have an entire menu of just their appetizers. I'd avoid the style that the waitresses at Hooters wear, though. I expect you would find them a tad too breezy this time of year.

Next, put on the apron thingy and tuck the gin bottle inside, then get behind the wheel of a convertible or a targa top automobile (one where the roof comes off in one piece... NOT a T-top roof). Drive out on one of those limited-access highways like an Interstate or a toll road and pull right up next to a big rig truck. Honk your horn, swerve like you're going to hit him from the side, whatever. Just make sure he's looking at you and you've definitely got his attention.

Take a big swig of the gin. Take another, and then spit a fine mist of gin mixed with your gin breath all over your steering wheel. The combination of gin breath produced by swallowing a single mouthful of gin with the atomized droplets of a second mouthful of gin will produce a highly flammable coating on your steering wheel. Flip the driver of the big rig "the bird", and when he flicks his lit cigarette at you it will ignite the gin on your steering wheel. What you're doing is creating a poor man's version of one of those fancy electrically-heated steering wheels ya hear so much about in them big cities.

It's easy. Buy new SUV with heated steering wheel- park in place of old traded SUV. You're welcome.

Airbags in steering wheels are dangerous. You may want to let someone else do this job.

:leaving::iagree: So does my Explorer Limited :yesnod:

When you use the auto start on a cold morning, it automatically turns on the heated steering wheel.
Nice and toasty... :D

There are cheap covers that plug in to the lighter and then you unplug it to drive but they look a little crappy.

The 2011 Lincoln MKX has a heated steering wheel. This would be your closest bet, find a steering wheel and a trusted mechanic to attempt to install it. Unfortunately I'm not sure if the 2011 wheel would fit on your 2008.
