View Full Version : Odd things that your pet eats....

It's no secret that my cats drink, mainly gin, rum, and beer. Annie is the resident sot; almost every night she drinks heartily from my gin and tonic, then staggers down the hall to my bedroom where she jumps onto the bed (often unsuccessfully) to sleep and snore. But perhaps my oddest food consumer is Tank, my food-neurotic kitty (he apparently suffered starvation as a baby).

I take him and Stormy to the office frequently, and my lunch is usually a to-go plate from a local restaurant. Today I had a vegetable plate of rice and gravy, butterbeans, collard greens, and corn bread with jalapenos baked inside. Tank always has to "inspect" my meal to see if it's up to his lofty standards. Today he zeroed in on the collards and cornbread. I finally had to give him a serving of them, and he chowed down. The jalapenos didn't seem to bother him; in fact, he loved the corn bread. Of course, his afternoon trip to the litter box was...memorable.

He's also fond of whole kernel corn (not cream style) and hush puppies. He is a true redneck Southern kitty! (Oddly, he doesn't like fried fish, baked fish, or even fish flavor canned cat food.)

The smaller dogs like cat turds straight from the litter box. All the dogs love a bowl of milk once in a while and Barkley will guzzle and unwatched Bacardi and Coke in a heart beat if you don't keep your eye on the prize.

They all like Dorritos, too, and so do the cats.

AM and PM wife feeds FOUR strays outside, plus the two inside, plus the damn dawg....the dawg will eat cat or any other food, so the ears are shrinking nose getting shorter and voice higher, next is to get it quieter...keep feeding cat food.....

I'm sure Cosmo would inhale anything...but Boxers tend to have bad tummies, so I don't give him much table food. Bread/toast is fairly harmless, though.

He enjoys ground beef mixed into his kibble...and yes, he knows the words 'ground beef' very well. :yesnod:

He's had small 'tastes' of bananas, and likes them, too.

The condom was found hanging out of the dog's butt. Ryan;s story was that he ate it. Some believe that it never went through the digestive tract. :leaving:

We had one Great Dane named Shadow who lived to be 11 years old. Every morning, he would have to have buttered toast for breakfast or he'd be in a pissy mood all day. And he would only take one slice of toast. Put a 2nd in front of him and he wouldn't take it. Pickiest damn Dane I had ever seen.

My Corgis, and the pit, go bat shit crazy over those little baby carrots. I'm not sure the female Corgi even chews the damn things so she can get back in position for another. One day I gave the male Corgi a carrot while the others were off somewhere else in the house. Rather than wolfing the thing down as usual, he was chewing it so softly you could barely hear him. Sneaky bastard, didn't want the girls to know it was snack time.

Our first two labs would eat anything. I once rolled up a paper napkin and tossed it to Max, our second one. He caught it, spit it out, looked at me like, "are you sure..?" then before I could stop him, down the hatch it went.

Our new one, Rufus, is very pickie. He doesn't get the "catch" thing and the first few times I tossed him food, it just bounced off his forehead. He's a wierdo.

Ruf was a rescue and had some trust issues at first, but the food catch thing was pretty funny. He gets it now but he always drops it first to check it out before it goes. And while the other two would eat nearly anything, if it ain't an animal product, he's not interested. The only two things I remember Max rejecting were olives and mushrooms.

I have 3 large male Maine Coon cats, (18-26#s) for the most part their rather happy on large quantities of normal cat food. With that said 2 of the boys just love yogurt. If my wife is eating yogurt she gets out two containers; one for her and the other is split between the two cats.

Two of them also have a big love of plastic and seem to find it as careful as we are to throw it away or put in a secure location. I’m talking about light plastic, the stuff that’s on envelope windows and bags like the deli gives out when you purchase cut to order lunch meats. One cat also just loves eating checks that are in the check register if we forget and leave it on a desk!

Ranger has some sort of food nuerosis. It's like he is starving all the time. He will eat absolutely anything. Sticks, dirt, rocks, paper, dead stuff, poop, any vegetable, mineral or animal. We have to lock him up so my other GSD can get some food.

He has some sort of nutritional issue. We think he doesn't absorb nutrients. We feed him like nuts. He will eat until he explodes. He figured out how to open the food bucket. We had to put a latch on it...

Poor thing is still under weight - chiming in at about 65 lbs. his head is huge. He should weigh about 75-80.

We had one who loved Cantaloupe, would do a little dance for it. All 5 now love, turkey. You can barely get in the kitchen when cooking a turkey, and we have a large kitchen. They sit around the butcher block and stove just waiting for the turkey to be done.
A few of ours like corn on the corn, the love to chew on the corn cobs.
Ice cream is always a hit and so is cream cheese.
Our rescued dog Ozzie loves butter, his nick name is Butter Boy. He has a pill to take in the evening and comes wandering into the kitchen looking at the butter dish for his hidden treat.
