Today we had our annual Gold Star Assembly at our High School. We have 53 graduates who gave their lives for our country in various wars, and once a year we honor their memory. Most students and all staff dress up for this event- (I can't count how many boys I had to help getting their ties right). Then we all proceed in silence to a darkened auditorium, lit up by 53 students on stage, each holding a candle. After a brief service, each name is read, and a candle is extinguished, until we are left with nothing but the darkness and our thoughts for the fallen heroes. It's quite moving.

So if anyone asks you what public High Schools do in regard to those who gave all for their country, you have your answer.
