Do you think you could have carried more speed by not hitting the turtle?

Forgot about that, actually been on track with him. It just seems like the car is at the ragged limit of lateral traction and whacking that right hand curb really upsets it.

I think it could be done but it wouldn't be faster, looks like you'd have to enter way late and it would be bound up tight.

I don't think so. When you hit the rumble strip, it lifts the rear tire just a bit. By the time the tire come back to the track you need that rear downforce to get you around the kink. The rule is- late apex and stay away from the turtle !!

I don't have a ton of seat time, but whenever the car in front of me wails one hard enough to lift a tire, I gain on them in that half a second it takes to settle the car. Not second guessing you, I would have crashed on the first lap where you breathed out a bit. :)

I understand that, thus why you would need a very late entry. When I was racing karts, you could often go faster by breathing the throttle than by "flat footing" it. Obviously the object is to go fast, not prove that you can leve your foot to the floor. I also think that if someone is flat footing that kink, they are seriously slower coming off the previous corner

I agree. I tried taking one of the big boy routes through the roller coaster at VIR based on a talk to Andy Pilgrim. I almost threw my car into the tire wall at hog pen. I got back and asked Andy WTf and he told me, yea it's a bit scary and I'd never do it in my own car. :slap:

I take "experts" lines with a grain of salt now,

Rule #1 of taking racing advice: if someone is paid to drive a car, they normally do not have to pay to fix it. That applies to any form of motorsports

I'm going to have to go look at my videos. I'm sure I have it. Lots of foul language and a womanly scream ( from outside my car I swear)

The womanly scream is not a surprise to any of us that know you

It is amazing how difficult it is to get grass out from all of the places it can go in a racecar. It's more fun when the grass is wet - you slide farther and the stuff dries to the firewall, the dash, the inside of the roof, your helmet...

Yeah. I am told the gravel traps at Road ATL can generate hours of work as well.

If you'd clean your windshield, that wouldn't have happened. :leaving:

I got similar advice from Randy Pobst at VIR with a very similar result.

Rode a few laps with him in his "street" TT Porsche and realized just how much I had to learn... and just how nice it would be to drive without worrying about the bills.
