View Full Version : Question about internet providers

I was getting the extreme DSL at a promo price for a year I did not see any significant speed increase in the service. It just ended last month and went to the slowest (cheapest) speed again not noticing any difference. I'm beginning to think a scam is going on by Bell South (AT@T). Who has Comcast as an internet provider and is their slowest speed faster than DSL slowest. I want real life answers not a website stating their speeds I can look that up. Thanks I'm thinking on making a change.

Little over 2 years ago I left Comcrap for ATT DSL, and Dish network, I had given up on Comcrap TV and used them for just Net, had a backup of basic cable by default but Dish had a much better pix...

SO a little later a ATT Uverse sales dweeb comes around and so offers me a deal on Uverse so I gave it a shot, MISTAKE, but they finally got this development's wiring fixed up and it's been pretty good.....

the whole gig with Comcrap was HDTV which surely they have solved, but the expense of them is/was just WAY too much,

my solution is ATT Uverse for .NET, and Dish for TV, and I have my own antenna for OTA for backup TV...... I pay 90/month total.....Comcrap would have me paying about 130/month by now had I not switched around....

Gotta watch these companies, they jack with their customers all the time, and it took a scathing letter to the National President of ATT in Dallas Tx. to get shit done, and so if I ever call NOW, there must be a hit list or a gold star on my account, ie, FIX IT@@@!!!....that letter was monumental,:dance::seasix:

If you notice the ISP always says "up to xx speed".
So if they are advertising 10mb service it's not guaranteed that you will be getting that.
You can be getting up to 10mb speed.

DSL speeds almost always depend on how close you are to the node(connection or distribution point) of your ISP. If you are too far you'll generally find lower speeds and crappy quality line service.

My thoughts: Started with DSL, just too slow. Occasionaly use my son's Direct, still too slow. Been with Comcast for years now, just can't beat the speed. No computer wiz here with no computer speak, but my downloads are within seconds, my internet browsing is very quick, if I have to wait for something for more than 5 seconds (rare), I start bitching. I'm just spoiled with cable. Yes more costly maybe, I'll gladly pay for the speed.

:iagree: You've got to test it and see if it's as advertised.

Unfortunately with DSL if you're far from a base station you may be limited and it's not worth paying extra.

sux, for supposed Uverse.....bastards...... 2.8 meg d/load and ~900k up.....

damn phone lines are underground run through the back yards, and there is NO WAY to replace them, so the only other alternative is Comcrap, and I not doing that again.....
