Friday was my son's last game as a senior. There was a whole ceremony before the game. NikiQ, Zed, Bucky, Liz and Kevin and my daughter were all there. He's played his entire five years at right tackle. The game was coming to an end, and I see him run in. I look away for a sec then look back up...I couldn't find him on the line. I could swear he went in. Well, he did. For his last play, coach lined him up at tailback. Carried the ball for 4 yards he did.
He's still smiling from ear to ear. Now I know why these kids would lay down on a bed of nails for this coach...and why he's won three consecutive state championships.
Anyway...here's the pic. Congrats Steven. It's been a great five years. :hurray:

Nope. He's done. His knees ache and his right shoulder pops when he moves it. And it's grueling. And he's too small. It takes a special kid to go on to play college ball. I'm just grateful he got through five years without a serious injury.
He wants to play intramurals in college. I'm good with that. :seasix:

That's where I'm most proud of him. He was a pudgy kid and I worried he'd have a problem as he got older. Now, there isn't an ounce of fat on him, he's ripped and spends every day in the weight room doing some sort of physical conditioning. It takes some serious dedication to go through with that.
Geaux Steven!!! :seasix: Congrats to you for all your hard work. :yesnod:

Technically, it was an optional program. Two-a-days started officially three weeks before the season. This is called "Performance Course" and it's run by an outside organization. It starts the Monday after school is over and continues all summer. The guys get there at 6:30AM and run, lift weights, push ups, sit ups and general conditioning for four hours (until it's too hot to continue). Their progress is monitored throughout the summer. There were only 4 kids out of 75 that received a "100% Attendance" shirt...Steven was one of them.
I should also add that they clinched their division title, so it's into playoffs we go. There is a chance he'll play more, but this is the last game at the home stadium. Not one team this season has scored out of single digits against us.
That's awesome, Mike. You raised 2 great kids. I know you're proud of both of them.
