I need a car inspected. Nothing formal, just check it out for rust, crank it up and drive it. No liability to you at all. I'll pay a reasonable fee. Thanks!

Zip is 77007.

If someone closer than I to that zip code doesn't step up, I can do it for ya.

Thanks! The seller apparently has 2 business locations, 77007 and 77002. Since it's Saturday, I can't get a reply from the business about which location this particular car is at. I may be calling on you.

I'll do it for $1200.00....That's reasonable...:seasix:

Those zip codes sound like somewhere around downtown Houston. I'd be glad to look at whatever you need. In fact, I'd suggest it might be a neat idea to make it a VB field trip. If any other Houston peeps want to get in on the tire kicking, perhaps we could meet somewhere near the site, visit, then go look en masse. More eyes are more likely to pick out flaws.

Either way, post the details/contact info/address and when you would like it to be looked at (or pm) and I'll be happy to look.

Caveat: If the seller has a bunch of doll heads out in front and inquires about rubbing lotion on its skin, I'm outa there.

Zip 77002 is downtown Houston, 77007 is west of downtown along I-10 and Memorial drive.

Normally I'd be able to help, but I'm taking mass transit with the new job, and I'm heading to Austin for F1 race next weekend.

I'll do it for $1200.00+ 40% of the purchase price if the deal is consumated....That's reasonable...:seasix:

As far as I know...:leaving:...this guy isn't into dolls. Here's the info I have:

1974 Triumph TR6 w/Overdrive – $14900 | Annex Houston (http://annexhouston.com/houston-car-sales-consignment/1974-triumph-tr6-od-14900/)

It is near downtown Houston.

My research tell me that there was not a white/red combo available, but I need to know what the data plate says. It's on the driver side door jamb. More importantly, I'm interested in the the overall condition of the car. They're prone to rust and leak oil. I need your opinion about this, plus how it handles and drives.

I don't expect you or anyone else to spend an inordinate amount of time with the car. I just need a pair of eyes to look at the car. The seller also has a 75 model for sale with rare equipment (overdrive and air conditioning), so if the white one is a dog, you might look at that one. No hurry. Thanks!

I'm assuming they are closed Sunday, but I would be happy to look at it next week sometime. I don't know anything about those cars, but I am pretty good at spotting accident damage, rot, and can certainly give you an idea how the car drives out, and whether everything is operable. I'll call Mr. Nguyen on Monday and get the particulars. Seeing as how he has "cemented himself" in the Houston automobile business, I'm sure he won't try to eat my liver with fava beans and a nice chianti. It wouldn't be seemly.

Of course that would not be seemly! How gauche! ("How goes it with you, too?") Sirus, these cars are pretty simple and bullet-proof, but they have rust problems. The wheels wells were the only things that were undercoated at the factory. If the entire underside of the car and frame got undercoated, it was by the dealer or owner, and that of course may be good or bad: Is it protected, or are they covering something up?

These cars drive pretty solidly, good handling, with a precise but long gear shift lever throw. They were dubbed "the last of the true sports cars out of England." Only 105 h.p. but they seem very peppy.

Thank you!

Also, any plans for watching the F1 race? I think we're going to try and watch it here, and grill some steaks.

Me too. Next week is even better since I am on vacation, but I can make arrangements. I would not trust myself being the one to tell if the car is good or not...but I can say that Houston cars don't typically have rust issues.

The Annex is about 5 minutes from my office. I met up with him a couple of months ago when I was considering selling my Z06. Danny is a nice guy, cool place, and has some pretty cool cars there. Neat concept, wish I had thought of it. Let me know what time you guys are thinking. I typically head out of the office by 2pm to head back out to Katy.

That's good to know. I was a little put off by his car descriptions; they sounded like ProTeam--"appears to be rust-free", "appears to be [whatever]". If you go see the car, don't forget to note what the data plate says about paint and interior colors. Thanks!

He will probably offer give it free to Spence (with free shipping) in exchange for his life....or, we might be entering a war with Vietnamese street gangs. I guess that all depends upon how "cemented in" the owner is with the community.

"Cemented in": A method used by a gang to take over a rival gang's turf by forcibly putting the rival gangleader's feet into a container of concrete, allowing the concrete to harden, and then throwing the rival gangleader into the ocean. :leaving:

Update:

Just called the dealer, it's a voice mail that has a generic message, not even naming the business. No address listed in the website that I can see. Seems a bit odd, kinda like a drug deal. I would list my address on a website.

Spence, if the guy does eat my liver with fava beans and chianti, I hold you personally responsible.

Anyway, assuming I hear back from them, I'm still planning on taking a gander at the car. For those following the thread that wish to participate, you can call my cell (713) 805-1574 and we can arrange a meeting spot.

I'll post as soon as I receive a call back. I'm going to fill out their "e-mail" response form as well.

OK, just spoke with Danny, he says he is near I-10 and Taylor, actually at the corner of Edwards and Silber. I'm going to head that way, ETA: 5:15 considering traffic.

Chris or anybody else interested, you can either meet me there or call me while en route. Danny says the car is on a lift right now, so it would be a good chance to inspect that undercarriage. Taking off in about 5 minutes.

The dealer was friendly, put the car on the lift gave us a light and let us have at it. We went through it with a fine tooth comb. It sure is a pretty car. I'm not a fan of the paint job, they cut a few corners I didn't like...ie look at the picture of the emblem. The rear has been repaired from an accident, the front bumper showed signs it was slightly bent. The engine was leaking oil just a bit. It would be a very fun car to drive, but it's definitely not a show car. Unfortunately they weren't able to get it started for me though.

And Stangkilller and bill_daniels did a perfect job of inspecting the car! Going over it with a fine tooth comb they did! I can't tell the both of them how much I appreciate what they did.
