View Full Version : Garage Heater
I had this POS electric heater for my garage that would keep my calves warm if I sat right next to it and needless to say it didn't create a comfortable working environment. Yesterday I was at this guys house and he had this heater in his garage that looked like a little satellite dish mounted to the top of a propane tank and it was pretty warm in there. I stopped at Lowes on the way home from work and picked on up for $45 and it's been about 70 degrees in my garage ever since! :hurray:
Just wanted to put the word out that those little things are figgin awesome!
Have a good day.

I have one of these I fire up on cold days when we're working in the garage. You can work in shirt sleeves when it's 20 outside. I think it was about $80-$90. I'm going to insulate the garage attic in the next couple of weeks that should help also.

I'm kinda spoiled with hydronic radiant floor heating, but in a cold climate, besides heating the airspace within the garage, the single best thing you can do to make it much more comfortable in the winter is to seal the concrete slab, typically with an epoxy coating. Bare concrete is quite porous and passes moisture up through it.
As such, an uncoated concrete floor will always "feel cold" in the winter, no matter how warm the air temp may be. The best air heater can't fix that. They help, sure, but when it's really cold out, you'll probably find your feet are still freezing even when the heated air temp is nice.

WTF? I just wear shoes. I suppose if you wanted to wear shoes you'd just have Jeeves your butler bring them to you.

I wear shoes too, and have spent plenty of time on cold garage floors too.
I pointed out the simple thing most people don't pay any attention to in concerns to garage comfort, since they usually assume concrete is a non-permeable surface.

:iagree: 80,000 BTU'S baby! I've used this for years and love it. Most of the time I blaze it up for maybe 20 minutes, then turn it down to low for the duration. Cuts the chill very quickly. I also feel better with the heater being 6 feet away from the tank, rather than mounted on top like the other kind.

The advantage is it heats the air and not just objects like radiant. :goodmorning:

I know most of you guys are familiar with these and have used them for years, but for anyone new please be aware they do consume Oxygen and produce Carbon Monoxide so make sure you have some airflow in your garage.
Have a safe day.

A nice warm bed and a HOT female on a Sunday morning beats a cold garage any day.
