Winner of $23M SuperLotto Plus Jackpot Forgot Ticket in Car
2:56 PM PDT, November 2, 2012
PALMDALE, Calif. (KTLA) -- The mystery winner of a $23 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot has finally come forward, just in the nick of time.
69-year-old Victorville resident Julie Cervera turned up with the winning ticket five and a half months after purchasing it in Palmdale.
Cervera's daughter bought the ticket for her mother at Michael's Liquor & Market for the May 30 drawing, but they never checked the numbers.
California State Lottery officials circulated a store surveillance photograph of the woman who purchased the ticket, hoping someone would recognize her.
Her daughter saw the photo in a local newspaper and made the connection.
That's when Cervera went out to her car and found the winning ticket, still in her glove compartment.
She had only 25 days left to claim her winnings.
Jackpot winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim the prize.
An unclaimed jackpot would be transferred to California schools, lottery officials said.
The odds of winning California's SuperLotto jackpot are about one in 18 million.
