LONGWOOD, Fla. - A bear sighting spooked a Longwood neighborhood Halloween night.
A man who saw the bear told Local 6's Kristin Giannas it happened as children were trick-or-treating.
The witness, who asked not to be identified, said he was passing out candy at his home on Earleaf Court when four terrified teenagers pushed their way into his house. He said he then spotted a large bear in his driveway.
According to the man, the bear apparently walked inside his garage and took a bucket filled with dog food.
The trick-or-treaters hid in the house until the bear ran off into the woods, the witness said.
"You never know what's going to happen. You don't know what they're going to do," said Marti Reid, who was driving her trick-or-treaters door to door.
One parent told Local 6 that the bear was at least 5 feet tall and has been in the neighborhood for a while.
"I was like, 'Guys, let's go,' and it was like, huge," said one trick-or-treater.
No one was injured.
Neighbors said they have called the the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about the bear before but were told the agency can't do anything about it because the neighborhood borders the Wekiva Preserve.
