Just returned from a week long trip to the Bay area and Santa Cruz. Made it down the PCH to the Bixby bridge near Big Sur in the evening to try to catch the Milky Way after seeing some nice shots of it on Flickr. The bridge is just over an hour south of Santa Cruz.
Exposure info: ISO 1600/f2.8/11mm/25 seconds. Canon 7d w/11-16 Tokina 2.8. I used an LED flashlight to illuminate the bridge during the exposure and had to do some minimal tweaking in Lightroom to even out the exposure. The sky is pretty much as shot save for some highlight recovery, a little boost in contrast and clarity, and some noise reduction.
BTW -- what looks like a full moon is actually a small crescent but it really shows up due to the high ISO and long exposure. I'm seriously upset with myself for not taking a higher angle shot to merge as a vertical panorama... something for the next trip.
This is one of about 1300 shots I took over the week so I'll post a few more if anything turns out. If I become insufferable with these, just tell me to stop.
