Teen Haunted House Hanging Accident Was Mistaken for Scary Prop
Posted on October 16, 2012 at 3:34 PM
FENTON, MO - A 17-year-old teenage, Jessica Rue, cannot remember what happened last Halloween because while she was working at the local haunted house, something went terribly wrong.
It happened October 27, 2011 on Jessica's second day at Creepyworld. Her job was to scare the hell out of guests as they walked through a bathroom scene drenched in fake blood. The scene included a mangled mannequin and a noose. Jessica lost her balance on the edge of a tub and got caught up in the noose. She hung there anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes before being discovered and cut down. No one is sure how long the teen had the oxygen cut off from her brain. She almost died.
Patrons of Creepyworld passed by, shrieking, screaming, and laughing because, well, they thought she was just another part of the attraction. The episode left her in a coma for three days and with no memory of that night or of anything that happened in the two weeks prior to the incident. She also has short-term memory loss and must write things down in order to remember basic things.
It really is a miracle she is alive -- and so scary because it was clear from footprints discovered on the side of the tub, scuff marks on the wall, and rope burns on her fingers that poor Jessica was fighting for her life. No one helped her. No one knew this wasn't part of the act.

Halloween, as a whole, has gotten out of hand. Its now more about being gross and gorey, than it is scary...
standing there in a Michelle Obama mask would have sufficed...

Lessee, a blood like slippery substance, a noose around the neck, and standing on the edge of a tub. Yea, there's nothing that will happen.....

Total carelessness with a very dangerous "prop" :yesnod:
A guy I worked with almost died trying to duplicate an old stunt/prop of mine, the wrong way.
I worked with a volunteer group and we built a haunted house for charity every year for 15+ years.
We designed some really elaborate props like the "hanging dummy", an electric chair, elevated floors with zombies buried underneath etc.
I placed myself in a climbers harness (leather wrap around the thighs and waist)
I attached the harness to a steel beam (via rope) in the ceiling and wore only a noose wrapped around my neck but tucked into the back of my coat.
It looked very real especially when I fell out of the ceiling on the spring line and swung to a near stop.
All kinds of big "tough" guys came up to give me a push thinking I was a dummy. When I reached out to grab them by the neck (you could do that back then) they about crapped their britches.

Some serious paper's being folded, too, this year.
The Halloween Economy: $2 Billion in Candy, $300 Million in Pet Costumes
Revelers are getting ready to spend as much as $6.86 billion this Halloween season.
Halloween is the holiday that puts the "conspicuous" into "conspicuous consumption."
If that sexy-Michelle Bachmann or zombie-Khadafi ensemble doesn't draw stares, you're wearing it wrong. If you're under the age of 12, you had better rake in enough candy to induce insulin shock. And if you're heading out to the bar, well, your wardrobe isn't the only thing that should be blacked out.
Of course, all that indulgence comes with a price tag. This year, experts estimate that consumers will spend about $6 billion on Halloween-related purchases.
That's just "a drop in the bucket" compared to overall holiday spending, said Nikoleta Panteva, a senior analyst with market researcher IBISWorld. According to her firm's analysis, Americans spent $228 billion for all major holidays in 2010, from Father's Day to Thanksgiving. Christmas sales alone were $135 billion, or nearly 60% of the total. Halloween's haul was the smallest, accounting for a mere 2.6% of holiday spending.
But for a few industries, October 31 is the night to shine. According to the National Confectioners Association, sweets-makers reap 8% of their annual sales during Halloween, making it candy's biggest holiday. Costumes, cards and decorations account for the rest.
