shit
I hate my local cable provider, Im bundled with them, it runs like 150 a month for shit cable, shit phone service that drops daily, and shit internet that also randomly drops for hours at a time...they keep ****ing up the billing aspect and im just tired of them.
I called DTV and talked with them, they had me setup with a bundle, TV with all the channels I needed, enough internets to get the job done, and VOIP phone through AT&T...and according to the sales skank..my bill would have been 134.XX a month, and not a penny more...I gave a CC for a 30.23 setup fee, and she passed me off to "The Bundler" to "answer any questions I may have" but that I was set to install on Wednesday...She stated explicitly that there would be no further charge needed, even on installation.
So the bundler gets on the line...wants to know how I use my internets. I tell him i dont game, mostly forums and porn, and email. Then he wants to know my skill level as far as installing a modem/EMTA...I told him I could handle it. Then he rambles on 2-3 other questions about my current cable service...then tells me to read him the brand off my modem/eMTA. I told him I dont have one, its a lease, like most are.
So he says he will need to add on like 175.00 for a modem/router fee...I was like WHAT. I dont need a router...so he says it will be 100.00 for the modem, one time fee...on 1st bill. So I ask him if I can lease it...he says sternly, no, leasing is bad, you want to buy. I should have asked him if he was a Jedi...
So I said, well, look dude, either lease it to me or do a better deal, Im happy leasing and I dont want to go out and buy one because mainly any time ive bought one, the provider cant seem to provision it to the account...so he says, nope.
so I told him to **** it, I wanted my 30 bucks back and I was not interested in service with them. He cold transferred me to someone, who I told my story to...who cold transferred me to someone, who cold transferred me to someone, who after 45 minutes arguing, finally said in 3-5 days my money will be returned.
A little over 2 hours...wasted, **** em. This is why people hate DTV...
My friend just got em, and the installer made em pay almost 100 dollars in cash or he was going to leave the system half installed, they were told there would be no charges on installation as well....**** em.

Between Dish and ATT Uverse internet, it's 90/month, and I think that's ASStronomical high priced......
we don't have a land line phone, we both have our cellphones....mine is just a simple flip phone, I actually talk on the phone, not TEXT....hate that shit, screens just barely big enough with my 17" monitor here, can't read shit on a 3x5 POS.....

It actually is cheaper (long term) to buy a modem/router outright from the likes of Best Buy, CompGeeks, TigerDirect, etc... Just have to ensure it'll be compatible with your service provider.

Last January, after about 6 months of battling the TERRIBLE ATT Uverse customer service centers, and the highly intermittent service on the TV and Net, I gave up on the TV and went back to Dish after just a month.....
ATT gave me a 100 buck CC as a sign up gift, bought a marine deep cycle battery for the motor home, now the comic act.....
the Net had more up and down action, but the installers were just fine, came out, did their job professionally, and handed out how many freebees, including a wireless trick for my computer, we dumped the LAN lines I had run through the house....all 3 machines are now WIFI.....they have been out here so much it's funny, I think my scathing letter to ATT PRESIDENT of the company in Dallas, must have lit a RED button next to me on their cust svc lines/department, it's been fine since then.....even though the gear only works decent about 80% of the time, and when it's down, shit..... I suppose maybe a dozen trips out here in tech support on ATT since May? 2011.....

Here's the deal. With DirecTV, when you are talking to them about internet service, you're doing it wrong.
Work out your internet separately, then get DirecTV for the superior number of HD channels, NFL Sunday Ticket, fantastic coverage of major sporting events like The Masters, their Whole Home DVR stuff, etc.
It's not going to be super cheap, and if price is your overriding concern I would get the best internet I could get and do a lot of Netflix or whatever using it.
Is there anything that you don't have drama and problems with Red?? I mean seriously dude. :skep:

Its 6/mo to lease an Arris eMTA right now..and Ive had it for 3 years or more, however its failed 2 times and had 3 different battery packs installed free of charge...if Id bought it, id have had to replace it out of pocket 2 times, as well as buy battery packs...
When I worked for comcast, people always pissed and moaned about the 7/mo lease and demanded we pickup the leased modem and install their purchased modem. Then 4 months down the road refused to listen when we told them their modem was dropping and it wasnt due to the inbound signal...and they needed a new modem...lol
Id rather lease...its not always the best decision, but id rather lease and lose, than to buy 3 times.

Right, I need one, but I dont want to buy someone that going ot be obsolete in 2 years, or break in 6 months, and so on..id rather lease it, and when its obsolete, get a new one for no cost, or of it shits the bed, get a new one 2 no cost, and so on.

Yea always trust the service rep. Oh. Wait. :D
Normally id agree but when Im sitting there watching their modem fall off, and reset itself every 3-5 minutes...lol.

Strange, I was on the phone for maybe 15 minutes setting up service and the installer was out 2 days later.
I declined their professional set-up for the whole home dvr and did it myself.
No complaints here. :shots:

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. So what does the script say to tell the customer next? :D
Confirm that the modem is plugged into an outlet and not into a surge protector, do a hard reset on the modem, let it come up, do a PINg test, then do a trace route, then watch the modem status as the customer attempts to connect. If the modem resets again, nothing we can do, contact the manufacturer, or try a another modem...

When we had them years ago, thats about all it was...simple and easy, but that was prior to the bundling shit.
We left when, for 3 solid week they royally ****ed up me trying to watch football, one week they for whatever reason deleted the sports package off my account, then the next week it just wouldnt come on...they said I had a bad card (in the box) and the 3rd week the game kept tiling and losing audio...cancelled that shit, come ot find out that when the idiot installed the dish he used little screws and it was slowly sagging and losing signal strength...but even after they sent someone out, they didnt catch that...

DTV just called back wanting to know why i cancelled, the dude said he thinks i got handed off by mistake to a retailer or something, he puts me on hold to confirm...then the line went dead.
Its like they try, but just...cant...seem...to give a shit.

So DirectTv is the devil and your local cable company sucks. Yea...
Wouldn't have been less aggravation to just go check with the next provider instead of getting you panties in a bundle? :slap:
In the time it took you to type out this thread, you could have made two more calls :yesnod:

In this area...there is 1 available cable company, and then 1 satellite provider.
Much like..there is 1 water service provider, and 1 electric provider, 1 garbage service provider...
Its a ****ing monopoly.

If it's anything like it is here, that's all taken care of at the city level. If it bothers you enough, quit bitching and let your city council know or run for city council to make the change.

HUGE expense for companies to come in and offer competing service for cable, water or electric...
Is your trash municipal?
I live in BFE and we have 3-4 options.
HTF are you limited to one satellite provider?
You cannot get Dish?

Not sure what municipal is...
but there used to be a couple options in the county, and they were all combined and/or purchased by "Emerald Coast Utilities Association",,,and thats all there is now, they do water and garbage, we are issued trash cans and told what days to put them out,
We used to have ECUA, Heil, and BFI that did garbage...but now its just ECUA and they do the whole county.
Satellite, as far as Dish is concerned, I dont recognize them as an option due to how unsatisfied people who have it, are with it. Pretty much every home in this are has a satellite, be it "dish" or "DTV"....but everyone uses cable, as the dish was a one hit wonder.
We had satellite back when Primestar first came around..it sucked balls.
But as for utilities..
Gulf Power is for power..no options
ECUA- Water/Trash with no options
BrightHouse- Cable/Internet/Phone (no other cable available, at&t is an alternative for phone and net, as well as other net providers)

Municipal is city-owned.
That's how the water/sewer is done around here.
We have one power, one gas, one cable/internet/phone provider too.
I'd love to have an option for cable & internet (ditched home phone), but the infrastructure expense to overbuild the area (along with regs) make it a long-shot.
I do some work for the local telco, and I ditched them for DTv when we took possession of our new house. I've known the cable folks for 12+ years, and it was going to take two weeks to get us service.
Duct was already in place from the ped to the house, and I buttoned up all the outlets inside. All they needed to do was pull the fiber in and splice it and mount a NID.
2 weeks was the best they could do.
Dtv was out as soon as I wanted them...no regrets.
Wish I had an alternative for internet, other than satellite. :ack:
$70 for 5M dsl or $100 for 10M.

Holy balls dude..
My cable internet is like 9/3 on average, sometimes 12/2...but its only like 40 a month for it.
My problems are more or less with the VOIP system, its very buggy, sometimes no in-calls, sometimes no out-calls, sometimes i can call in or out, but no one can hear my voice, or I cant hear theirs...and sometimes, its very staticy...rarely do we go a week without losing service in some way.
When we had AT&T....we would go years without any issues at all. After Ivan raped our collective asshole, phone service was restored within a couple days, where power took 2 weeks and cable 16 days....ATT was awesome and didnt charge us for time down...
The other issues im having is, the cable company and how they bill. I cant rely on my net or phone to work reliably enough to do E-pay or anything like that, and I only live like 10 minutes from the head-end/payment center, so I always drive the payment to them.
For over 3 years, it has taken them 5 days to process a payment, be it check, card, or whatever. So this past month the bill was due on like a monday, so i drove up there with a check on a Friday. i had like 6500 in my savings account but i didnt get it transferred to checking in time before the bank closed and...surprise, the net was down for a good bit of the weekend. so monday morning I call the bank to transfer to checking and im in the NEG..wtf first time ever.
So i transferred the penalty fee and stuff over, and then took cash to the payment center to cover it and make it all right. They tell me that I need to pay the bill + 30 dollars penatly...which was fine, I ****ed up, so I pay the price. So i layed cash down and asked for the check back, she said it would be mailed to me within a week.
So 3 days later, they sent the check back through...and ****ed up my account again, The bank said to cancel payment on the check, and they did at no charge. I called the cable company and they said the check had been turned over to collections "Next check"...so I called them, they said they didnt have the check...no one would help me.
3 days later they tried to send it through again, of course it was cancelled, so they penalized my account 30.00 for cancelling a check.
Keep in mind, i took care of the check within an hour of it bouncing, paying all fees and penalties in cash.
My bank pointed the finger @ bright house, who pointed the finger @ Next Check, who pointed to the bank...
30 days later, its resolved...but ive changed banks to go to Navy Federal, my bank handled the whole thing poorly. Brighthouse pushed the check through even after my acct was up to date and the check was covered, then turned it over to collections...and that company, even after admitting the check was taken care of, tried to push it through, then charged me for it.
I dont do checks anymore, and NFCU offered automatic transferring so I can use my check card with 0 checking balance and it will auto-Xfer from savings, my old bank wouldnt offer that.
I feel for people that try to float checks...but in my case I had the $$ just not in the right part of the account.
