That last pix above, is what we found 9 of them on a flower out front, minus the white 'wasp?" gigs......we pulled them off the flower as they had eaten a good bit of it, I popped them on the sidewalk and they spread a blue/green jelly guts all over the sidewalk, very slimy, flower came back ok, ....
gotta watch next year.....happened in Spring time.....

Those wasps literally turn the caterpillar into a zombie. When they are larvae they seek out the ganglion (the brains) and eat the part the gives the critter some semblance of free will. Otherwise the caterpillar would stop eating due to all the pain it was in. So they essentially drive that thing around for awhile, then chew through his caterpillar hide, and then suck more juice out of him while they pupate.

There's no saving the caterpillar. When the wasp laid those eggs she injected a venom into the caterpillar that also carries a virus. The venom and the virus somehow keep the caterpillar form ever going into the pupal stage.
