View Full Version : An agonizing and wasted hour of my life!

So.....

Two weeks ago I volunteer at my son's school and one of the fellow parents asks me in a string of questions if I work paycheck to paycheck and/or would I be interested in supplemental income. Well, of course...I show interest. Depending on the gig, could be nice.

So....this person invites me to Panera bread just down the street to go over the logistics. I guess I was naive to think food would be included. First impression, this guy has one of the little cups of water (the free ones) and no food, doesn't offer to go order, buy my food, let me order, etc etc...anything. I suppose he picked the location because it smelt nice...who knows. He later says "I like to pick places that have no tip service tables"...Hmmmm....interesting.

Anyway, come to find out he works for a company that is not Amway however buys all there product from Amway...whatever, thats what it was. I have never heard one of these sales pitches before and plus he's a fellow PTO parent so I stuck it out and listened. Here are some of the highlights that I found funny and abnoxious!

- So he starts by setting my "goal" supplemental income. He first made the mistake of asking what I desired and wasn't happy with my "an extra $500 a month to loosen up" answer so he filled in the blanks for me with $100,000 over the next 5 years. Ok, THIS coming from someone that has a free water....but ok, Im down.

- Somewhere in this part he let me know that he has been with the company for 6 years....me thinking, "where is your 100k?"....but whatever

- This is my favorite part....He paints this picture of luxery with descriptions and visual graphics and then says...Have you ever watched people driving around in Camaros and Mustangs and wondered to yourself....what do they do for a living?....he was serious! ...Now, this guy does not know that I own a Corvette however I would have paid to see the look on my face! I think I opened my mouth...not sure. He appeared distressed when I said..."no, not really". Of course I am thinking about all of my friends that drive Corvettes, Mercedes, Lotus...etc that actually WORK for them. Anyway, I kept my mouth shut and didn't say a word.

- Anyway, he proceeds to explain how he never went to college and makes enough money with this program to stay at home and only work occasionally as an usher at Titans home games. Ok, however if your taking that angle you probably shouldn't also include that your wife is an accounting attorney!! I mean really?? Of course your bills are getting paid buddy....sheesh.

- Lets see what else....

- Oh, so then he goes off in this direction about how this program will recreate the way we shop...make us more aware of where we put our money and the things we invest in. Im thinking....you have no idea how frugal I am Mr....you try being a single parent and buying a house and etc etc....(my soapbox...I'll stop). He starts asking silly things about how much laundry detergent I use which he had to give up on when I told him I stretch a jug 6 months and then cosmetics and I told him I hardly where it. Oh well, we were definately on different pages.

- So then after the agony is over...he walks me outside to give me a free energy drink that he sells (that I can sell to!) and he's driving a 10 year old Ford Taurus that seen better days. Now, I am not bashing by any means a beater car or its practicality....but dont tell me I can make 100k in 5 years when you have been doing this for 6 years and drive a beater! This guy! :leaving:

Ok, I have a headache. Coffee and PBJ time!

Wow, that's a wall of text without Cliffs. So here's a picture of, certainly, a very fast Camry with it's wing on backwards.

You should have cut him off as soon as you found out it was a pyramid scheme. That's all on you.

A few years ago, I made the mistake of going with a co-worker to attend an "investment seminar" that turned out to be an Amway salespersons' recruiting drive. :ack:

My wife had a couple coworkers that were always telling her they wanted to talk to us about Team National.

Is that the crap he was selling?

Nothing, I went home and ate ;)

I was curious to hear what he was gonna say next. Didnt expect it to last so long ;)

Is that the crap he was selling?

I have no idea. All I know is that he said, "Were partnered with Amway because we get our merchandise from them" .... ??

For a second, I missed the "P" in PBJ...

My EX, the kid's mom worked in the Fed.gov offices of Wash DC, along with a whole bunch of other underachievers......so maybe 30 years ago, we get invited to a party, and there is this presentation going to be made after dinner/snacks/coffee/whatever.....

they get about 2 sentences out, and I just blurt out, 'Sounds like Amway'....and THAT is the ONLY Amway party I have ever been to.....

I blew their entire story line, right outta the water.....:seasix::D:lol::lol:

SO there are all those PHD and educated folks getting hammed up with that farce, :leaving::D

Once at a convention I had the opportunity to speak to 10,000 people in an audutorium. My opening line was "Now that we're all here, I'd like to talk to you about Amway." It got a huge laugh.

Wow, that's a wall of text without Cliffs.

Cliffs:
Kym spends an hour of her time listening to an Amway sales pitch, thinking it's an hour of her life she won't get back, but is then relieved to find out that the bizarre experience and the stories about it are worth more than she could have imagined going in.
We'll, that and apparently that other people see camaros and mustangs as aspirational vehicles.

From my experiences with them, Amway is a pseudo-cult that causes the followers to act in a way that actually changes their personalities. Anyone that says "MLM" needs a swift kick in the balls. I have heard the pitches for Amway, that stupid Acaia Berry Juice, "The Trump Network" and a host of other stupid shit at Chamber of Commerce meetings.

I had a "good friend" try a similar scheme a few months ago.

My response, "I'm not interested".

Him: "You don't want to make extra income?"

Me:"You waste your time on the pyramid scheme and tell me how much wealthier you are in 3 months".

I talked to him two months later. Him: "you were right". :leaving:

Moral of the story, if it's so easy to make money, why are you telling me about it and not busy doing it? :skep:

:iagree: I have a cousin that does it, and they renamed it "Quixtar" several years ago, and I think they have renamed it again. So far he hasn't gotten rich, but he has damn sure spent countless thousands on their seminars, meetings, or whatever the hell you want to call it. Just insane. It is amazing the amount of shit they try to pump into your head to make you think you will make all kinds of money. It's like a cult or something, I don't know. BTW, hi Kym!!!

Had a friend that got suckered in, apparently by the "you can make money buying from yourself" line of BS. I was invited to a presentation at her house, during which I proceeded to question everything the douche was saying, getting into debates with him about where the money was coming from. That more or less pissed my friend off. Months later, her hubby told me that she realized it was a scam and that she quit, but refused to tell me. ROFL
