An unknown U.S. soldier and his squad were in the middle of recon in Afghanistan's scary-as-all-hell Kunar Province when they came under heavy machine gun fire from Taliban insurgents.
With the rest of his guys "pinned down," the soldier stepped out into the open "to draw fire so my squad could get to safety."
Thankfully, he caught it all on his helmet cam and lived to tell about it:
"I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and I made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face.
A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless."

Dood musta had a death wish,,
Why in the hell would you expose yourself like that to be a target?
Secondly, what was he shooting at? :island14:

It's impossible to tell from a helmet cam what he was shooting at. The shooters are out of sight and using scopes just like our soldier is. The ostensible reason he exposed himself was to draw fire from the members of his squad...which apparently worked. He says that his cam quit working, so we missed the hairy part where he got even closer to the enemy.

He did it to draw the fire of the insurgents so that his squad could have an opportunity to get to a better position, and hopefully take those fkrs out. At the least, it gave them time to seek better cover I hope.
Death wish? Are you serious? That's one brave mofo soldier and I salute him! :cert:
You could never understand the depth of the loyalty soldiers have for their brothers, unless you've been in their shoes. :sadangel:

There was no cover, and you can see bullets hitting the ground right beside him.

:iagree: I have read many stories of what Medal of Honor holders did. None of them had a death wish. The MOH holders saw men they served with in dire trouble and did what they could to save them. The soldier in the video did not have a death wish. He was willing to do what ever it took to save his brothers. He is a hero and should be honored for what he did.:cert:

Agreed. They did not have a death wish; they did what they thought had to be done, even though loss of their own life was possible or even likely. I hope I could do the same under those circumstances.

I kept hoping for air support...
