Filmed with my GoPro in early August. At the 1:20 mark it actually looks like the rotorblades are slowing down. They are actually increasing in speed from 97% to 103% Nr as the pilot starts pulling in power, and the rotor RPM gets closer to the GoPro shutter speed and appears to be slowing down. I wish I had the footage of his Pinnacle take off, it was quite something.

How could it fly with the rotors barely moving? :leaving:

The heli-deck is actually a treadmill.

Private yacht 85 meter yacht. Deck was a type of rubber that is very hard to keep clean. :banghead: I find out tomorrow if this will be my full time gig, which means about three months out of the year at sea, and about two land based in different countries. If it doesn't go full time, then I will still be working on this helicopter as the pilot only allows me to work on it. :D

Yeah, that deck looks like it's teak to me too. That'd be a bitch to maintain too with that helo taking of and landing on it all the time.

Good luck on getting that as a permanent gig. :seasix:

Billionaire yacht.....when married the kid's mom, we went to BVI's for honeymoon .....saw plenty of HUGE yachts....using twin Bertrands for lifeboats on top of the decks.....then on the way out flying over Drake Channel, what to we spot?? a yacht a good 50% longer, with the mandatory Bertrands and a cherry red helicopter on the fantail.....same gig......always one bigger, no matter WHAT you got.....

RH, question man, years ago Volvo had a gig known as the Duoprop on their outdrives, counter rotating props on the same unit, one after the other on same shaft.....supposed to have tons of advantages, although I forget just what they were.....

I was said that tech was going to be used in Helicopters, but I have never seen one, have YOU?? what results did they have from tests, if any done...??

:waiting:

Never knew Volvo made a helicopter. Counter rotating props have a few advantages. Less vibration at higher speeds caused by retreating blade stall, and all thrust is used for lift. A tail rotor can rob about 10-15% of SHP.

Thanks dude! I will know next week some time. Everyone involved (Britts, Frenchies, two companies and the owners PA ) is on board for me. Filling a dual role on the ship is a win win for everyone. Just waiting on daddy warbucks to pull the trigger. :D

:yesnod: Kaman's been doing that for quite a few years now.
