Making salsa out of the stuff in my garden for canning (was cutting tomatoes for 6 hours).
Anyhow, I grew a bunch of different peppers.... Some of which were supposed to be hot but as I was cutting them up I was eating small bits and there was no heat in any of them. Read somewhere that if you want it hotter to toss in the seeds so I ate one of those and sure enough it was a little tingly, but nowhere near hot. So I tossed in the seeds too.
Strange thing is when I was done cutting everything up I mixed it with my hands and washed them good with soap and water when I was done... A half hour later the back of my hands started burning, it's a half hour after that now and they're still on fire? Musta been the onions activated them? Have a feeling this stuff is going to be legendary

When you go take a piss and your schlong is still burning an hour later, that's when you know those peppers were hot.

I've got a friend that works with a guy who grows his own peppers. Everything has cross pollinated and some of the peppers that should be mild will light you up.

Don't you know what kind you planted? Maybe the strange weather has something to do with the heat level this year. :island14:

We do it on purpose every year. We position several habanero-type plants near the jalapenos, seranos, fresnos, etc and everything gets kicked up in heat, some years by a bunch, some not so much but still a lot hotter than they would be otherwise.
Similarly, if you have one or two "hot" varieties next to bells or anahiems, you'll get the opposite effect.

Must be cross pollination then. I bought a "salsa kit" of seeds last Winter that had a few different varieties of pepper. I'm not good with names, especially from that long ago. Also bought some jalapenos seperately. There were bell peppers growing in the garden but I think they flowered before the others.
Just added the final touches to the cauldron. It's slow cooking, covered in the oven... Time for a nap :D
Smells mexicanny :hurray:

I strained the soupy leftovers and got a couple more bowls of salsa. Put one in the fridge for later, ate the other while it was still warm. Turned out great, just the way I wanted it... No lip burn but it sure does leave your tongue feeling special :D

While you were cooking it, your taste buds got used to the heat. Later, this Winter, when you eat it, it will light you up.
What do you use it on?

My grandparents had a huge garden when I was a kid, every year they would can green beans, corn, tomatoes, and I'm sure a lot of other stuff also.
It takes a whole lot of work, but sure does taste better than store canned foods.
Not to mention the money saved...
How many jars did you get this year?

Got a dozen jars. I just eat it with tortilla chips. Was wondering if there were other uses for it... Might make a good taco topping? :D

It'll make a great taco topping. Now this is gonna sound weird, but try it on top of some peas or butterbeans like you get at a farmer's market. It's real Southern, but good.

I've always wanted to grow a dozen haberno plants with 2 bell pepper plants in the middle just to see if they'll cross pollinate.

You don't have to leave it up to the insects. I've been ensuring pollination of my plants by hand (or finger as the case may be).

Sub anaheims and it works. Bells just have zero capcaisin.
