Anyone know what caused the crash? Stangkiller was there on Friday and said it had no issues stopping w/o the chute.... people are saying it was the heavy cross-winds coupled w/ using the chute.

Why would you want to even use a chute, I'd just coast to a decent speed then use the brakes, he probably did it for show.

Wow, I never thought a chute could cause that! I wonder if he was trying to save on his brakes ($$)?

BTW, your sig date for cars and coffee is outdated. :D

That was the same car that did 250mph at the Mile this past spring. :yesnod:

Not only did the guy walk away from this crash, he came back to run again the following day in his TT Viper.

Funny, all everyone in the OT at that other place had to say were things like "that guy's an idiot" and ""he has no business even driving a car with 100 hp". You guys are so much nicer in here.

Sucks about the car and glad he's OK.

The theory I'm hearing most is that he didn't wait long enough after popping the chute before getting out of the gas, which exasperated the crosswind issue when the chute didn't deploy correctly at first. He then left the track and struck a mound of dirt meant to protect a runway light.

I wasn't impressed with him last year, when he spun at the end of every run. Thankfully he had a full cage, 6 point harness and a hans device. One day very soon someone is going to take a 250mph dirt sample and these mile runs will disappear forever.

I hope the Texas Mile folks can make real their goal of an actual sanctioning body and regs for the drivers and cars. The current system of just letting anyone who can buy a 250mph missile come and run cannot last much longer.

There is enough track that a chute shouldn't be necessary.

On friday the guy was stopping no issues from 230 or so no chute, Saturday The cross winds got him and from what it looks like, but comming down from 250+ so I guess the 20 mph made him want to use it here. SW (who is good friends with the owner of said lambo) said this:
quoteing from his post at CF.

"I have been on this forum for a long time and never seen so many stupid comments. You guys are making these comments without knowing anything that happened, anything about the driver's experience, or even being at the event. I have been going to the Texas Mile since the very first one and had the record at 246.3 until Richard got it in March. Richard, the owner of the Lambo, has raced Pro Mod cars and still races Pro bikes. He is very familiar with driving fast cars and racing them. How many of you have actually been on any track and driven a car at speed? I have a Underground twin turbo Superleggera also that makes over 1500whp and yes these cars are incredibly fast. They also are very planted at speed but as we all know, anything can happen. This was just a racing incident and that's it. I was doing a shakedown run in my Supra and went 238.9 and my chute was slow coming out and I went off the end of the track at over 100mph..stuff happens when you push the envelope. I am just thankful the Richard came out in this unfortunate accident and don't appreciate all the stupid comments.."

I was wondering when the video would surface. WreckedExotics had a picture in this week's updates.

Yeah because you know everyone has a 1500+ wheel horse gallardo in their garage so they are all experts, I am reminded again that this forum is beyond the CF

I think it was the loose nut behind the steering wheel.

:iagree:

Drag Racing, AutoCross, Track Days, etc. allow us to enjoy perfomance cars doing what they were designed to do.

If you can afford it, don't endanger innocent bystanders, and have the good sense to have the saftey equipment to survive what you get yourself into I suggest we tip our hat to you and enjoy the show.

We can all take a lesson from Craig Breedlove after breaking 500 mph at the Salt Flats in the Spirt of America then crashing into a lake he said "What a ride...For my next trick...I'll set myself afire!"
