I have enjoyed scotch (both blends and single malts) for decades now. This week I was in Portland OR on business and we went out to dinner at a sushi place. Our host introduced me to Suntory. This is a Japanese single malt whisky that is remarkably smooth and very similar to scotch.

Not suure how widely available it is here but if you get the chance to try it, do youreself a favor

It is not my favorite but it is good. Best scotch for the money is Balvenie 12 year Doublewood. :yesnod:

I don't drink Scotch, but a local Irish pub/restaurant went out of business here last weekend, and people tell me the last night there was a big blowout party with all the regulars. The owner was pouring shots that usually go for 20-30 bucks each and charging two bucks. For that price, if I was there I would have tried some.

The Japanese are one of the highest per capita consumers of scotch in the world, and they have a fine selection of scotches. They also have bought more than a few age old distilleries in SCOTLAND! :(

I really like Yamazaki scotch. Very smooth and smoky. Great daily drinker.
