View Full Version : Thanks for your help last year
Last year I started a thread while we were considering our first cruise. A lot of people piped in with some good advice and tips. We flew direct to San Juan and cruised to Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua and St Martins. 7 days so I'm missing one stop.
We had so much fun Mrs. WKMCD just set up another 7 day cruise for the end of January.
Curacao, Aruba, Dominica and St Thomas.
Did an owners suite again which has some nice perks. Last year we got "stuck" in San Juan and missed all the snow. We'll see what we leave behind this year.
Thanks again for the advice last year. Please feel free to add any advice/tips again this year.
My advice is this: Bring us souveniers.

You know if you take the bands off Cubans they look just like Dominicans...:D

I was just in Curacao last month, go figure. :D The people are really nice and the language is cool, at least i thought it was. The locals speak Papiamento which is a Portugese / Spanish mix with some Dutch, English and French tossed in.
The ship docks behind the Renaissance Hotel/Casino. There is a little shopping promenade there, standard 'duty free' type stuff (emeralds, diamonds, ray ban, etc) and souveniers. Renaissance Mall & Rif Fort / Shop & Splurge / Choose Your Adventure / Home - Curacao (http://www.curacao.com/Choose-Your-Adventure/Shop-Splurge/Renaissance-Mall-Rif-Fort) . The restaurant Steak and Ribs is really good, we ate their a few times. You can walk outside of the fort area and cross the floating dock where there is some more shopping and restaurants.
Outside of the ship dock area there are some 'nice' beaches. Blue Bay is their 'premier' beach, but I thought it sucked. It was $8 to get in, the beach was rocky/ground up shells and the water was full of rocks making it tough to get in and out. Blue Bay is 15-20 minutes from the dock. There is also a golf course on within Blue Bay. The best beach I went to was Porto Marie (~40 minutes). The water was clear and has really good snorkeling and reasonably priced - $5 to get in and for the chair and the food is also reasonably priced.
I did not make it to Aruba but the locals I spoke to said that is where the the resorts and the sandy white beaches are.
I spent most of my time working or Scuba diving but here are some of my pictures:

Seperate boarding lines. Seperate non-schedule dining. We like to have our own table. Private concierge to arrange things and a private lounge. Seperate poolside area, seperate waiter. etc, etc, etc
